The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The Turquoise Coast comprising beautiful beaches and rugged and lush scenery enjoys hot and sunny weather throughout its long summer. The villa nestles at the foot of the Babadag Mountains and benefits from a warm and welcome breeze at the height of summer - much needed as summer temperatures average 30 - 40 c with a winter average of 15 c.
The nearest beach is in Olu Deniz, one of Turkeys’ most famous and most photographed beaches. At the far end of the beach you will find the Blue Lagoon set inside a national park area. It is sheltered with still, warm waters perfect for safe swimming and paddling for any age group.
Fethiye is a large and lively harbour town with a lovely marina and promenade. Every Tuesday there is a huge traditional Turkish market which is the largest of its kind in the area – a must for locals and tourists alike with its heady mix of exotic spices, teas, fruits, vegetables and of course Turkish delight. Traders come from far and wide to sell goods ranging from designer handbags and jeans to jewellery. Try your hand at haggling and grab a bargain.
Visit the ghost town of Kayokoy village once home to 3,500 Greek residents who were deported in 1923. It is fascinating to see its empty streets and roofless houses. There are also numerous restaurants offering BBQ and a swim in their pool if you fancy a welcome break.
There are many trips and excursions available with a full day boat trip around the islands where you can swim in secluded coves and spot turtles and dolphins, for as little as £12 per person (including lunch!). Other trips include:
- jeep safari ride;
- water rafting and kayaking;
- microlite flight;
- Butterfly Valley;
- tandem paragliding from Babadag mountain;
- Hisoranu Aqua park;
- horse riding;
- trip along Dalyan river (home to the Loggerhead turtles) and to the rejuvenating mud baths and spa;
- Sakilikent Gorge some 18km long and the the second largest in Europe;
- the ancient city of Ephesus and the calcium mountains and warm spas of Pamukale;
- The Yakapark trout farm with fascinating water features and tree top dining;
- A 90 min hydrofoil will take you across to the island of Rhodes.
In essence, the area has an enormous range of excursions and activities. You can be sure to find something to suit every taste!
Hisaronu is a lively town with friendly locals dedicated to ensuring tourist satisfaction. Sitting in the hills above the Blue Lagoon it is close to both Fethiye and Oludeniz with their glorious beaches.
The rugged landscape around Hisaronu is ideal for those who enjoy hiking. The hills are wooded offering shade and the temperatures are cooler than at sea level. Alternatively the hills can be explored on horseback or on mountain bikes.
This vibrant town is full of gift shops, bars, cafes and restaurants which cater for every taste. At night it is particularly lively when holidaymakers from nearby resorts come to join in the fun. Eating out and entertainment is great value and hair cut, shave or mani/pedicure much cheaper than at home, so it is worth treating yourself.
Smaller than Fethiye, Hisoranu has an excellent market every Monday where you can buy low cost designer style bags, clothes, jewellery and local souvenirs.
Our favourite restaurants include Castellos for international cuisine or Festival for traditional Turkish fayre. For a speacial evening - try The Sundial in Fethiye where you can dine whilst watching the sunset over the sea. Details of these and many more can be found in the welcome guide in our villa.
A Hisaronu holiday offers far more than just lazing on a hot beach. There are so many different activities to more than fill your days.
