The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The Turquoise Coast is on the southwest of Turkey on the Mediterranean Sea and the climate is usually warm and sunny with high temperatures particularly during July and August. The temperatures even in May, June, September and October are equivalent to a hot English summer.
Olu Deniz is one of Turkey’s most acclaimed beach resorts surrounded by mountains and is probably the most photographed anywhere in the world.
The turquoise waters are crystal clear in the bay with a lagoon separated by a spit of sand, which is a recognised nature reserve, provides a clear, calm lagoon for enjoying and boating.
All of the bay is surrounded by mountains, pine forests and well-known historic ruins to be explored.
Everywhere you look there is stunning scenery and beautiful landscapes.
The town of Olu Deniz has been designed to be only one or two storeys high to keep a discreet low profile within the mountain backdrop to preserve the beauty of its scenery and setting.
Olu Deniz is also famous for paragliding and it is not uncommon to see 20 or 30 paragliders coming down from the sky at any one time. This is available for any individual to experience.
With the sea at the bay edge and the lagoon there are plenty of areas for shallow waters for small children and deeper water for adults.
There is also a whole range of water sports for people to participate in, as well as boat trips to visit other areas along the coast to visit the historic Fethiye harbour town or the ancient Lycian rock tombs.
Olu Deniz has a good range of modern and traditional bars and restaurants within a reasonable price range in a superb scenic setting.
Nearby Fethiye is a larger town with traditional Turkish streets, shops, markets set below pine-clad mountains, overlooking the harbour with its many boats, which are available for hire for boat trips.
There are many speciality shops and covered markets selling jewellery, leather, clothing, as well as fresh vegetable and fish markets. This is a thriving town offering all of the facilities of a normal traditional large town.
Fethiye is a short taxi ride or bus ride from the villa (4 miles).
Within easy access is the ancient city of Ephesus, and the calcium mountains and spas of Pamukale. Within a couple of miles from the villa is the deserted Greek village of Kayokay. This town is the remains of the vacated town after the War of Independence in 1922, and all of the houses, churches are still in existence for you to wander through and explore.
The Hisaronu / Ovacik area
The town of Hisaronu is only approximately 1 mile from the villa and the same distance inland from the Mediterranean coast and is a town full of bars, restaurants, hotels and shops. There is a large supermarket providing anything anyone could need. The bustle and nightlife in Hisaronu is in sharp contrast to the quiet peaceful nature of our villa in Ovacik.
Hisaronu is centrally located to be within a short distance from the villa and all local areas. The local bus (Dolmus) is a cheap way of exploring the area with low cost bus rides if a taxi is not required or you don’t have a hire car. All towns are easily accessible for a modest cost.
Within a 5 mile zone you have a mixture of the beautiful and idyllic Olu Deniz and its beach, nature reserve and lagoon, the more traditional Turkish town with its markets and shops and harbour of Fethiye, and the bustling bars and restaurants of Hisaronu, and the quiet village like atmosphere of Ovacik where our villa is positioned.
Hisaronu is well supplied with shops selling everything that the holidaymaker would require. All shops speak English and signs are in English for the visitors. You can buy anything from designer wear to carpets, leather goods, jewellery, etc, and haggling is expected as part of the shopping experience.
There is a complete range of restaurants in Hisaronu from traditional English to Chinese, Indian, Italian, etc, at a vast range of low and reasonable prices. Alcohol and beers in this part of Turkey are cheaper than back home in England!
Hisaronu also provides a nightlife, clubs and pubs, which provide entertainment until the early hours.
As well as the beaches and shopping facilities there are numerous opportunities to get out and about. There are many popular activities that can be enjoyed such as paragliding from the mountains landing on the beach, canoeing down the Xanthos River to Patara, paintballing in the pine forests, taking a glass bottomed boat trip, spending the day on the Greek island of Rhodes and visit many surrounding islands off the Mediterranean coast.

We should have written a review on our return from this villa, but for some reason we forgot. Today I have remembered when looking to book a villa for next year. Mountain View is just a perfect place for a holiday. The villa was extremely comfortable and had everything we could have wished for. It was very clean, with the cleaners coming in every other day. The pool area was spotless and the additional use of the Hotel facilities was a real plus. We were so near to the resort too, being only a 5 minute flat walk through the back streets. Don't make the mistake we did the first day walking all the way up the hill and then walking all the way down the hill again into Hisaronu!!! Fond memories!! Thank you Martin Th |

We had a great time in this villa as we have children of mixed ages and both pools kept them all happy. The Villa is ideally located, being in a quiet secluded position with 14 or 15 other villas. The Bars shop & restaurants are only 5min walk and the local Orka hotel will even pick you up and drop you off if you wish (free of charge). We also used the facilities in the hotel and enjoyed the evening entertainment. The local beaches are just a 5 min bus ride and many water sports are available. I will be coming back next year for sure as the children loved their holiday........ |
