BookThe Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Turkey might be the world’s most contested country. Its landscape is dotted with battlegrounds, ruined castles and the palaces of great empires. This is the land where Alexander the Great slashed the Gordion Knot, where Achilles battled the Trojans in Homer’s Iliad, and where the Ottoman Empire fought battles that would shape the world. History buffs can immerse themselves in marvels and mementos stretching back to the dawn of civilization.
Then again, if you want to simply unwind, spend an afternoon being pampered at a Hamam, or let the warm waters off the Mediterranean coast lap at your toes. Adventure lovers can head east to Nemrut D agi National Park. Bon vivants need loo k no further than Istanbul, where the markets and bars are among the most stylish and atmospheric, and the mod Ottoman cuisine rates as the tastiest, in the world. The country’s tumultuous history has left a deep legacy.
People who’ve never had to suffer for an idea or fight for a patch of land can be overwhelmed by the passion of ordinary Turks for their country. But for ordinary Turks that passion finds its outlet, not in martial ardour, but in simple pleasures: family, food, music, football, and friendship.
Turks have an inspiring ability to keep things in perspective, t o get on with everyday life and to have a bloody good time in the process. Sharing their joy in the simple things is a highlight for every visitor.
Treat Turkey as that most quintessential of Turkish dishes, the meze, a table piled high with scrumptious treats. Throw away the menu, order a plate of everything and feast till you can’t go on. Afiyet olsun!
The Hisaronu / Ovacik area
Fethiye is one of the most popular resorts along the Turkish coast. It's set on a wide bay, strewn with many islands. It is 135 kilometres (84 miles) south west of Marmaris in Mugla province, and has an outstanding and busy marina. The ancient name of the city is Telmessos where you can see a fortress on the hill overlooking the city which was built by Knights of Rhodes. Fethiye is known for its rock tombs carved into the faces of the cliffs by the Lycians. These are elaborately carved and are remarkable. One of them is the tomb of Amnytas dating from the 4th century BC built in Doric architectural style and is worth well visiting. Other historical places in the city are several sarcopaghi, theatre and the Fethiye tower.
Gulet cruises are also a popular choice amongst locals & tourists alike and we couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Whether it be a day trip around the 12 islands which are usually a full day and include a hot meal. This includes visits to many of the islands and a many chances to cool off in the beautiful Mediterranean ocean. Or, alternatively, if you have the time we highly recommend a three day trip where you get the chance to sleep under the stars (if you wish) and spend lazy days and nights on-board.
The captain moves from one location to another and normally manages to find nice secluded spots to moor up. Keep your eyes peeled and you may see flying fish, dolphins and turtles.
All meals are taken aboard and generally an excellent time is had by all. It would be wrong of us to recommend any individual tour operator; trips can be booked at any of the many travel agents in Hisaronu or, if you want to save money, you can go directly to the yacht tour operators at, or close to Fethiye harbour.
Hisaronu caters for all tastes as it is packed with a variety of shops and restaurants covering the four corners of the globe. If it is nightlife you are after then look no further, the bars are always buzzing with activity and for those who like to dance the night away it caters for you too.
Tan minutes away is Oludinez, the bay forms the dreamlike Belcegiz - Ölüdeniz (Blue Lagoon) known as "a paradise that God granted to Earth", a very fine place with 3 km of natural beach and crystal blue waters in enchanting surroundings. At Koturumsu, a heaven-like beauty awaits you, where you may reach only by boats there are waterfalls flowing across valleys where thousands of butterflies, exhibiting tremendous shades of colours, fly amongst the pine forest bordering a lovely beach. Some of the other natural attractions are Katranci Bay, Gunluk (Kusuk Kargi) Bay, Oyuktepe, and Göcek with its harbour and marina. Around Fethiye, there are important ancient cities of the Lycians To the south-east of Fethiye lies Xanthos at Kinik village, an important capital of Lycians Its setting is naturally adorned while Letoon by Kumluova village and nearby Xanthos is also interesting. Letoon was a cult centre during the Lycian period and remains of temples dedicated Lento.
Activities: An abundance of activities available including water sports, boat excursions, jeep safari's, horse riding, paragliding, fishing and much more.
Shopping: A good selection of shops with excellent value jewellery, clothes, shoes, beach wear and water sports equipment.
Many small, well stocked mini markets. Fethiye has an abundance of shops and a large covered market on Tuesdays. There are many bars/discos and restaurants in Hisaronu which cater for all ages and tastes. More nightlife in nearby Fethiye town. Eating Out, you'll be spoilt for choice with a large choice of restaurants, cafes and snack bars serving local Turkish fare as well as seafood & Italian dishes, Mexican, Chinese , Indian and of course - English. Restaurants line the beach front boulevard offering airy dining with fine views of the bay.
Turkish Baths
Why not treat to a luxurious Turkish bath. There are many places local to Villa Esra that offer many different treatments, these generally include exfoliating treatments, foam baths, oil massages and many more. Prices are surprisingly cheap but do vary from place to place. It is certainly an invigorating experience and I can promise you, one that you won't forget!

Transfers to and from the airport were booked through the owners of the villa. This made smooth and easy start and finish to the holiday as there was no waiting around. This was a quiet family holiday, although only a five minute taxi ride away from the town. Therefore had option to stay at the villa to eat or travel into town to visit the numerous restaurants. The villa has a beautiful pool area, the pool was kept clean throughout our stay. The villa was spacious and comfortably fit our family of four (with teenagers), with room to spare. |

Villa Esra has very much a homely feel. This was our 3rd visit to Ovacik, in as many years, but our 1st to Villa Esra and the most enjoyable so far. Peaceful location and excellent amenities. Close to all restaurants and nightlife but far enough away if looking for more tranquil vacation. The pool & pool table were a welcomed distraction in the midday sun. Would recommend and will definately be returning in the future. Response: Thank you so much for your review and we are delighted that you are booked to return next year. was a pleasure accommodating you Karen and Ian |

We would then require a 20% deposit or £150 which ever is higher, at time of booking and a £150 breakages deposit payable with the balance, which will be refunded within 2 weeks of departure from the villa once an assessment has been carried out by the caretaker.
Please also note that we are not looking to attract single sex groups.
We try hard to be flexible around change-over days and should your departure flights be later in the day, are happy for you to remain at the villa on the day of your departure. We work towards this by trying to avoid the 'one out, one in' mentality and leave a few days gap between bookings.
However, should there be a tight turn around, you will be asked to ensure that your luggage is packed and moved to the lower entrance hall to allow the cleaning to start on the upper floor by 12noon on the day of departure to ensure that the villa is clean and ready for guests arriving.
Our trusted carers of the villa, Malcolm and Emi (who you will know well by the time you leave) will arrange this with you during your stay should the occassion arise.
