The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Ovacik is situated on the beautiful south west Lycian coast of Turkey, also known as the 'Turquoise Coast' due to the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Blue Lagoon. This coastline is home to Olu Deniz beach, one of Turkeys' most famous and most photographed beaches. At the far end of the beach you will find the Blue Lagoon set inside a national park area – the lagoon is very sheltered with still, warm waters perfect for safe swimming and paddling for any age group – Turtles can occasionally be seen swimming in the lagoon.

Olu Deniz offers many beach side cafes and restaurants and all the usual watersports; parascending, pedaloes, banana boats and you can, if you dare, take part in tandem paragliding descending from the peak of Babadag mountains landing some 40 minutes later on the beach. Alternatively you can relax and sunbathe watching the world go by – the ultimate beach resort!

Fethiye is a lively harbour town with a lovely marina and promenade area. Every Tuesday there is a truly traditional Turkish market which is the largest of its kind in the area – a must for locals and tourists alike with its heady mix of exotic spices, teas, fruits, vegetables and of course Turkish delight. Traders come from far and wide to sell goods ranging from designer handbags and jeans to jewellery. Try your hand at haggling and grab a bargain – there are lots of restaurants and bars to sample here.

Ovacik is located between Fethiye and Hisaronu and offers a selection of restaurants and bars.

Another great place to visit is the ghost town of Kayokoy village – this is about 4 miles from the villa and costs about 6 turkish lira (£3) on the dolmus. This was once home to 3500 Greek residents who were deported in 1923. It is fascinating to see its empty streets and roofless houses. There are also numerous restaurants offering BBQ and a swim in their pool if you fancy a welcome break.

There are many places that can be visited nearby including the Dalyan beach river (home to the Loggerhead turtles), Sakilikent Gorge, the ancient city of Ephesus and the calcium mountains and spas of Pamukale, Rafting down through the mountains – you can also book boat trips and other day trips from Hisaronu or Fethiye.

Hisaronu

Our villa is situated in Ovacik – about 15 minutes easy walk to Hisaronu with plenty of bars and restaurants on the way ( or a very short Dolmus/taxi ride away).

There are many water sports in the area from hiring speedboats to diving with PADI qualified instructors.

The charming town of Hisaronu has a vast selection of restaurants – whatever your taste is you will find something here! The food is excellent and good value whatever you choose but we recommentd 'Festival' or 'The Olive Tree' for traditional Turkish fayre. The hospitality in the local area is fantastic and nothing is too much trouble!

There are also many shops selling a wide variety of goods from designer wear to traditional Turkish goods. Good fun to haggle with the shop owners – they are all very friendly. Monday is market day and well worth a visit. There is even a small funfair here for the children.

There are 2 waterparks in the area, one in Ovacik (easy to walk to) and another at Calis Beach (approximately 20 mins away by road).

Nearby to the villa there are several shops to buy provisions should you wish to self cater in the well equipped kitchen.

Many thanks for your kind review - we are genuinely pleased that you and your family had a great holiday. With reference to your comments concerning sunbeds, we were unaware of the potential shortfall as all of the owners collectively purchased new sunbeds for this season. There are usually enough around but we will rectify this for high season. Hope to welcome you to our villa again in the future. Kind regards Jackie and Mike

"Wonderful relaxing holiday!!!"

My husband and I and our three teenage children spent two wonderful weeks in this lovely bright and airy villa. It is kept to a very high standard and includes regular cleaning with changes of linen and towels. The villa is set in lovely gardens with access to a beautiful swimming pool and loungers.
A twenty minute walk takes you into Hisaronu with it's vast array of restaurants, shops and bars. In the nearby Orka hotel we experienced a fantastic Turkish Bath.
Our trip was made very easy with the help of the owners who we booked directly with. They provided excellent information and arranged our transfers to and from the villa. Everything was so easy, we would definately recommend Sakin Villa and we hope to revisit sometime soon.

Thank you Debbie for your kind review. We are so pleased that you all had a great holiday and we would be very happy to welcome you back another time, Kind regards Jackie & Mike

"FAB FAB FAB"

I have fallen in love with Turkey and this villa. I fully intend to come back next year and the year after and the year after.... get my drift? The villa is equipped with everything you need and more. The maids clean it thoroughly before you arrive and bed linen and towels are replaced as if by magic. The hotel is able to sort out any concierge requirements and all the locals are so lovely and friendly. Bit of a walk up the hill if you're not very fit - but hey taxis are very reasonable. Great for all ages and we were a mix of 4 years, teens, 20's and 50 - 60. Fab fab fab.

Thanks very much for taking the time to write this review. We are so happy that you fell in love with our villa (& Turkey)! and that you all had a nice relaxing holiday. We would be extremely happy to welcome you back anytime! Best wishes Mike & Jackie

"Fabulous Villa, Great Place to Stay"

I visited Villa Sakin with my husband and two teenage children. We stayed for 10 days. The Villa is immaculate and was beyond anything that we had expected. The rooms were large and airy and had all the things that would make this home from home. The kitchen had everything necessary for self catering but because it is so reasonable to eat out that is what we did most of the time. The bedrooms were fabulous especially the master bedroom with the balcony that overlooked the pool and surrounding countryside. The Villa itself is in a magnificent large corner spot which overlooks the pool. The grounds and pool are kept immaculate by a very friendly gardener. The cleaning ladies who came in every few days to clean up were always friendly and smiling ( that was a bonus, to have a villa and someone to do the cleaning) The towels and bedding were all changed regularly. The restaurants at the top of the main road were great. You can get a great full english breakfast for 5 lira which is about £1.80 The people are so friendly and we were made welcome everywhere we went. Hisaronu itself is about a 15 minute walk from the villa but if this too far then just outside the complex on the corner is a taxi button and when pressed, a taxi comes to you. We never waited more than about 3 minutes. The town is lovely with a multitude of different restaurants to choose from. It would be impossible not to find something that you liked. The trips were amazing and such good value. Definitely try the Jeep Safari. It's a long day but well worth it. Mike and Jackie were extremely helpful with everything even organising the transfers to and from Dalaman Airport. This was a plus as this was our first time in Turkey. Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that we could use all the Hotel Orka facilities. They were great for changing money, giving directions and anything else we neded advice on. I would definitely recommed a stay at this fantastic villa and will definitely return in the future.

"First class - a very relaxing holiday."

What a fantastic break!! I'm always a bit nervous when trying out a new holiday destination and whether the accommodation will meet my expectations. I can honestly say that it exceeded them.

From the pickup at the airport to the presentation of the villa, gardens and pool everything was well organised and it made for a very relaxing break with my wife and kids, 8 and 10.

You arrive to a spacious well designed contemporary villa, equipped for your every need, washing machine, dish washer and fitted kitchen etc. The bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable, with two ensuite shower rooms upstairs and one shower room downstairs. The villa has both an alfresco dining area and a balcony off the master bedroom. Both catch the sun in the evening and overlook the pool area. There were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas to go round. The kids loved the pool and there were other families around and they made friends easily. But people were also respectful of each others space and relaxation.

The Orka hotel complex with all its facilities is only 5 min walk away and is available to use. There are swimming pools, spa, restaurants, theme nights etc and the staff are always friendly and accommodating.

The villa is situated within easy access via dolmus or taxi to Olu Deniz, Hisonaru or Fethiye so there is plenty to do and restaurants to visit. Follow the restaurant recommendations in the visitors book and you won't go wrong. For a special occasion (my daughters 10th birthday) we went to the Yacht club in Fethiye, friendly staff, kids welcome and great views over the harbour and the mountains beyond.

If your more adventurous hire a car and take a trip to Patara beach and the Lycian ruins. And then visit Kalkan for a sundowner at the harbour in the evening. A great day out.

All in all a very enjoyable break.
