Follow the A303 along the edge of Salisbury Plain, past Stonehenge and in a few miles a small, country road will lead you under the grand, stone arch at the entrance to the Fonthill Estate and on to Stop Farm Cottage in the tiny hamlet of Fonthill Gifford.
Built of mellow, local stone, with attractive, lattice windows encased by stone mullions, the cottage is as charming inside as its appealing exterior suggests and is perfect for renting all year round; cosy up in front of the impressive, sitting room fireplace on a winter's evening or relax and unwind over a summer barbecue in the secluded garden at the back of the cottage.
Stop Farm Cottage is just a few minutes' drive from the very attractive villages of Hindon and Tisbury, both with several pubs and the latter in particular with an excellent range of local shops, as well as main line station to London (Waterloo). Less than a mile away, the traditional yet stylish Beckford Arms is a highly regarded 'country house' inn, serving locally sourced food.

About this location
The Wiltshire region
The surrounding countryside is some of the finest in southern England and offers unlimited opportunities for anyone with a love of the outdoors; there is marvellous walking in the immediate vicinity – around Fonthill Lake for example – plenty of good cycle routes, riding stables, excellent game and coarse fishing and several, challenging golf courses.
Visitor attractions in the area are also abundant – magnificent houses and gardens for which Wiltshire is famous, such as Wardour Castle, Wilton House, Longleat and Stourhead; Salisbury Cathedral with the tallest spire in England and the prehistoric sites of Stonehenge and Avebury. Within an hour's drive the World Heritage city of Bath, the New Forest National Park and the South Dorset coast are a must for a day's excursion.
