The Devon region
North Devon countryside near to north coast beaches and coves, Dartmoor with many places of historical interest, Dartmoor ponies and abundance of wildlife, flora & fauna. Great area for cycling, swimming, horse riding, archery, walking, classic rural villages, children's parks & activities.
The area has 12 Parishes surrounding Hatherleigh with twisting lanes, ancient hedgerows, cob and thatched cottages dating back to Saxon times usually built around a church with a village green and most with a pub at the heart where you can find good food, ale and company. Views of Dartmoor with it's stunning scenery & ponies never far away and the deeply rural landscape of small fields, cattle, sheep, woods and farms has been created by countless generations of farmers as they have strived to make a living from the soils of the Culm Measures.
*Village of Hatherleigh famous for it's pottery, pannier & local farmer's markets, filming of BBC's 'Springwatch' programme.
*Nearby pubs at Iddesleigh and Exbourne well known for good food and where 'Down to Earth' was filmed.
*Inches Cider factory in Winkleigh, one of the many delightful characterful local villages closeby.
*Cream teas at Hatherleigh, Higher Cadham Farm, Jacobstowe and Roadford lake.
*Milland Farm garden open certain days under the National gardens scheme.
*Nearby fishing, archery, horse riding, walking, watersports & beaches. Local castles & monuments.
*A wealth of cycle and walking trails.
*North Devon Coast with many sandy beaches & coves nearby as well as Cornwall and the Eden Project and many children's farms & parks.

"Fantastic property in good location"
Would strongly recommend. Well equipped and decorated, clean, tidy property with all that we needed for a nice stay. Good to sit outside on the decked area to enjoy a meal and Pimms. We made a lot of use of the beach equipment, in particular the wind break. Good WiFi connection. Great swimming pool and area to sit around the lake. Ideal location. Local pub serves nice food and is within walking distance. Easy drive to excellent beach and shops at Bude and other coastal towns. Plan to visit again next spring. Thanks for a nice stay.

"Beautiful cottage, stunning location"
I stayed at Hillview Cottage for a week this July with my partner, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage was clean, cared for, and well equipped for my partner and I, but would also easily accommodate larger parties. The handbook was particularly helpful during our stay as it clearly explained how to operate everything in the cottage, and also had a lot of useful information about local day trips, pubs and other activities. We really enjoyed the on-site amenities of the beautiful lake and views, along with the pool, but we also really loved how easy it was to visit the idyllic surrounding villages. A trip to the beaches of Bude were a lovely day trip in particular, and easy to access. The local pubs also did delicious food and were very cosy and welcoming. We will certainly be returned as it was a wonderful relaxed escape to the beautiful Devonshire countryside.

"Pleasant holiday let"
The property was a bit smaller than I had imagined but very clean and well equipped. Household essentials e.g. tea, coffee, hand soap, washing up liquid were provided which was a nice surprise. The swimming pool was lovely and made the holiday much more enjoyable as we weren't very lucky with the weather. Pleasant, quiet location. We saw lots of wildlife - squirrels, bunnies, wild birds (including a woodpecker a few times). TV reception wasn't great but lots of DVDs were provided which kept my girls entertained. Lots of beautiful scenery and interesting things to do in the area. We recommend the archery centre across the road, the Red Room in Hatherleigh and the Bush Inn at Morwenstow.

"Perfect location for the beach and fishing"
This is our second year at Lakeview. We travelled with 2 teenagers and one 10 y.o. What a lovely and relaxing place this is. It feels like home from home. All the necessary things for your comfort are there, kitchen is well stocked, washing facilities. Heated swimming pool for rainy days, fishing. There is sauna too, but I have not had a chance to try it out. Shopping in nearby town. A perfect base to get away or explore what Devon and Cornwall have to offer. Love this place and will be back again. If I am fussy and honest, the only thing I would change is the bed in the master bedroom, as it's too short to be really comfortable for anyone 6ft and over and I thought I could smell mould in the bedroom. On the plus side this year there is free WiFi, a really nice and useful touch!

"Lovely chalet/cottage in beautiful setting"
We had a fantastic stay at 7 Lakeview Rise. The cottage was well equipped with every detail thought of. I'd planned to try my two year old out in the shower as there was no bath, but large baby bath provided was fantastic on the veranda. The cottage was clean and nicely decorated with everything we needed and the surroundings were gorgeous. The pool was really lovely, well kept and the perfect temperature. The owners were incredibly prompt about dealing with all of our enquiries and the info provided was most useful. If we hadn't had such good weather and been able to sit outside on the veranda to eat, I would have found the cottage a little bit small for our family of 5 and you definitely need to have a car to explore as this is quite remote but there are incredibly beautiful places to see that that make the journeys worthwhile. We had a fantastic holiday and would visit again.

"Great rural retreat"
Small but perfectly formed lodge set in pleasant grounds with good facilities, we made lots of use of the indoor pool which we often had to ourselves. The accommodation was spotless, comfortable with all your needs thought of and baby equipment available. Also quick and easy communication with the owner in terms of sorting keys, money, and flexibility departure time. Would definitely recommend.

"Perfect family location"
We have stayed at Lakeview rise four times, once with friends, once on our own and twice with family. Each time it has exceeded all our expectations. The cottage is so well equipped and clean. The children loved the pool and the fishing and there is so much to do in the area. There are some lovely beaches nearby and we enjoyed eating in the recommended pubs & restaurants. We found the locals friendly and we will definitely return.

"Great base for exploring Devon and Cornwall"
I and my partner found the property to be beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. The heated indoor pool was a very nice facility to take advantage of, however we did not have time to use the sauna, Perhaps next time! Amenities for rubbish and laundry and a payphone are close to hand, but I found mobile phone reception to be fine. 3g was very random but I understand that broadband is coming soon. The lcd tv had good freview reception with lots of channels and a selection of dvd's and books as well as lots of information on local attractions etc. There is a lake by the pool house with bbq facilities and an adventure playground. The whole site seems very well maintained is a beautiful quiet place to relax. Everyone we met seemed very nice and a grounds keeper recommended some places to eat. I recommend "life's a beach" in Bude for seafood.

"Lovely place to stay! Highly recommended!"
Me and my boyfriend stayed for the weekend in May and it was Lovely. From booking it we shortly received a welcome pack with so much useful information about the area and what we could do. Which got us very excited. The cottage is lovely, it has everything you need and it off a high standard. We used the pool and sauna which were both amazing, and great as we had them totally to ourselves. The grounds were lovely and we did lots of walking about. We used the information provided and checked out some beaches, did a bit of hiking and also did some archery across the road. I can't wait to go back!!!! Leilax

"Ideal cottage for a relaxing, comfortable family holiday in a lovely part of Devon"
Immaculate cottage which appears to have been recently decorated - it is lovely and modern and bright throughout. Very well equipped for our family holiday. Owners were extremely helpful and dealt with all our booking arrangements very promptly. The cottage proved to be a great base for visiting different parts parts of the Devon coastline as well as for all the places that the children wanted to visit. Plenty of places to eat out and to buy food for when we ate in. Having the swimming pool on site was fantastic as we could leave the dinner cooking while the children had a swim. Compared to other cottages I would say this was one of the best we have stayed in and extremely good value for money. We will definitely be returning!
