and consistently award it 4 GOLD stars for exceptional quality and custopmer service Whoop whoop!!!
We welcome, everyone including Walkers, Cyclists and Pets
Despite being built such a long time ago we have sympathetically fully insulated, heated & double
glazed the building. In 2010 we had the roof renewed, returned to slate, and insulated with the
same product that NASA uses to insulate the spaceships!
The floors are wooden, Douglas fir, and finished with a non slip matt coating. For ease of access* all
floors are on one level
Clusters of multi directional spot lighting supplemented by table and standard lamps support the
relaxed surroundings of the Waiting Room
Many quirky individual touches can be found throughout the accommodation and the garden
Further details outdoors:
The garden is south facing, well stocked with flowering shrubs, mature trees, spring bulbs, seasonal
flowering plants and herbs. The lawn was the railway track…it takes Steve my husband half a day to
cut it. Guests have sole use of the cottage garden which is fully fenced. Please note fenced to keep our
animals out and not guests in. However this area acts as a secure area for your own pet if you
choose to bring him or her.
You have a fantastic view of the sun rise and sun set from the cottage garden. We have no light pollution; the
North Pennines is one of the least light pollution areas in the UK. There is an uninterrupted view
from the garden across the fields and fell. To the North we over look Staward Gorge, which is home
to many birds of prey and Staward Peel Roman tower is located in the field opposite. We are home to many species of wild birds, game and animals. We have left one section of our garden untouched for this reason.
Our hens roam freely with the exception of the guest cottage garden. The hens like nothing better
than to have a dust bath under the stone bridge or to sunbathe under a tree. Our dogs and cats also
love to play in the garden and love the guests who feed them!
