Northern France region

Pas-de-Calais is a department of northern France, named after the French equivalent of the Strait of Dover which it borders. Many British tourists will be familiar with the region due to the exceptional transport network which connects Pas-de-Calais and the south coast of England, making day trips and weekend breaks to property in Pas-de-Calais easy and cheap. However, there is far more to see from a cottage in Pas-de-Calais than many people realise; Pas-de-Calais is a genuine tourist hot-spot offering magnificent cuisine, charming towns, extensive shopping and a rich maritime history.

It is a highly cultural region of France, offering a taste of its unique culture to interested visitors. The intriguing combination of Flemish and French cultures has resulted in the region being a hot spot for food and drink, and the regular markets which are held in almost every town, and the range of fine restaurants make taking a self catering chateaux, apartment or cottage in Pas-de-Calais a genuine treat.

Away from the many charming towns there is even more to enjoy. Taking a holiday rental gite in the Pas-de-Calais countryside means that you can not only enjoy extensive walking, cycling and horse riding through beautiful, open countryside, through quiet woodland and rolling hills, but you can happily visit some of the best beaches in Northern France. Among the finest beaches in the region is the wide, flat, sandy beach of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, which is a favourite escape for many Parisians.

Many people will take self catering chateaux or cottage in Pas-de-Calais to visit the battlefields and cemeteries of the World Wars, especially the infamous battleground of the Somme. While many tours of this nature will be highly personalised, the tourist information centres of Pas-de-Calais have a huge amount of information and a number of excellent guided tours available if you would like to find out more from your holiday house in Pas-de-Calais. The sight of England's most celebrated medieval battle field, Agincourt, lies 5 miles north of our cottage.

Pas-de-Calais is the favourite destination for British golfers on the road. Pas-de-Calais golf accommodation is abundant in the area, and due to the excellent transport networks, you can have a week of playing golf in the Pas-de-Calais's 6 courses .

Fressin is a quiet farming village, not far from Agincourt, Dennlys Parc adventure theme park with the vast sandy beaches of the Channel coast at just a 30 minute drive away. Seaside resorts vary from Berck and le Touquet, which are large, to Merlimont (the closest) and Stella Plage, both of which are small.
