The Cow House offers you a charming, comfortable and relaxing home from home for up to 6 people.
The well equipped kitchen and large dining room gives you a chance to enjoy all that lovely French food and wine in a beam ceiling rustic setting.
The flower filled, sunny and secure garden allows children to play safely in the sandpit while you relax on the swing seat. Or they'll be kept amused in a playroom with toys, a dolls house, table football and an indoor swing from the ceiling.
In the evening, you can snuggle up on the high comfy sofa and choose from our selection of DVDs before heading for bed in our super comfortable beds. There are two bedrooms with two kingsize beds and two single beds.
It is a fantastic place to relax and unwind at any time of year. The village is in the Seven Valleys and has lovely walks, bike trails and things to do. The nearby Opal Coast has glorious sandy beaches, golf courses, a theme park, summer festivals and a brilliant water park. Paris is just over 2 hours away by car or you can take the TGV from nearby Arras.
The area has plenty of interesting history: Montrueil-ser-Mer is a fortified town made famous by Victor Hugo and Les Miserables. Visit Arras with its huge food market and lovely squares or follow the history of the First World War sites and museums throughout the area . Vimy Ridge is an hour away while the new musuems at Ypres or the Somme can be reached within 90 minutes. The battlefield at Agincourt is 20 minutes away.
There is a bakery in the next door village (1 mile away), the amenities of Hesdin within 4 miles and markets on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in nearby towns.Throughout the summer, every village has a brocante (think village fete plus car boot sale) throughout the summer.
As our own second home, the Cow House is a lovingly restored property with a high level of comfort and charm. We have packed away our personal belongings but have left things that you would not normally find in a holiday cottage, including books, games, toys and beach equipment. The kitchen is so well equipped that we have cooked Christmas lunch for 8 with ease.
We have had the house since our son Zach (now 12) was a baby. Thanks to Zach and his sister Ada (now 10) we are well equipped for children. There is a cot, a high chair, a changing mat, kids crockery, books and toys, If you don't have children please don't worry as there is lots of very comfortable grown up space without a toy in sight!
Our prices are simple: £495 a week except for July and August (£545 a week). We accept short lets at £100 a night in off peak periods. We ask that you leave the cottage as you find it and we ask for a £100 deposit in addition to cover breakages which is repayable within 7 days of departure.
There is lots of hot water and central heating for the cooler months covering morning and evening.
We provide bedding (duvets and pillows)
We have an English keyholder living a few miles away if you have any problems during your stay.
We have had many happy guests over the last three years and hope that we have covered the things you need to know. Please phone, text or e.mail if there's anything you need to know.

The courtyard garden is pretty, sunny and secure. There is a paved eating area with a table, chairs and parasol. There is a BBQ, sandpit, small playhouse, swing seat, and hammock.
It is a mature garden with some stunning plants including a rambling red rose round the door. As the house is single storey it has 3 doors opening on to the garden making the garden very accessible.
There is a parking bay at the side of the house for one car. Please reverse in as it is just about impossible to drive in forwards. There is space under the windows at the front of the house for an additional car.
There is only one near neighbour who is very quiet so you will be undisturbed and not overheard. The house is opposite a working farm.
A £100 security deposit is payable prior to arrival and will be repaid subject cleaning/breakages/damages within 7 days of departure. There is normally no cleaning charge but we ask that you leave the cottage as you find it.

The Nord-Pas-de-Calais region
The Pas de Calais is peaceful rural area of Northern France with plenty of historical interest. The climate is similar to the very south of England, with slightly earlier and normally slightly warmer spring and summer. There are golf courses, fishing, walks, bike rides, motor sport, children's theme parks, beaches, shopping, ports, castles and places of interest all within easy reach.
Paris is accessible by car or train while, in a different direction, you can combine a visit to the new Louvre gallery in Lens (www.louvrelens.fr) with a trip to World War One battlefields. The largest cathedral in Europe is at Amiens and there are lots of interesting places to go, both for shopping, wine, food, fun for kids etc. Food in the Pas de Calais is diverse, from basic local dishes served through family run bars and restaurants, to culinary delights in specialist restaurants. There is something for all tastes.
The historical walled town of Montreuil allows walks round the ramparts, but you are never far from the town centre with its shopping lanes and squares with outside dining cafes and restaurants.
The coast is close by with Berck being the liveliest coastal town. Le Touquet is about a 30 minute drive and has a wealth of upmarket shops and restaurants. Hesdin is 20 minutes with its famous Thursday market and friendly cafes in the square.
In summer months, a music festival is held, with live music of all types featured weekly. Brocantes (local markets similar to car boot sales) are held virtually every weekend at different villages in the area.
Golf courses abound in the Cote d'Opalle (Opal Coast), with challenging courses or those ideal for the high handicap. All are friendly and inexpensive compared to the UK or other countries.

"an easily accessible rural retreat, full of charm"
We have had a wonderfully relaxing week in the Cow House. Although the weather was mixed there was plenty to do. We enjoyed the beach at Merlimont best, Le Touquet and Berck were also good and with better facilities. Le Touquet shops were a hit too, especially the lego shop. Plenty of handy supermarkets and Hesdin market a must on Thurs. Enjoyed an easy walk around Montreuil town walls followed by a delicious lunch in an outdoor cafe opposite the church. Nearest wartime museum at Vimy Ridge, captured children's imagination as trenches have been restored. Plenty to do at the Cow House if wet: lots of games and DVDs and the indoor swing was a novelty! Cooking facilities are excellent, lots of lovely hot water and very comfy beds. Lots of farm animal life to amuse the children from the windows! Pretty terrace garden for your aperitif if you also have the sunshine. All in all a most enjoyable week and we will definitely be back! Would thoroughly recommend.

We had a lovely week. The weather was great. The house really spacious, well equipped and had lots of charm. We loved the local bar in the village with lots of handmade wooden games. The garden is a sun trap. The cast iron bed is super comfy. Great walks and lots of interesting places to visit. Great place to unwind. Would definitely go back.

"Lovely rural property in a beautiful area of Normandie"
We stayed at the Cow House for a week over Easter. We were the first people in after the winter and the owners had had a few problems over the winter months which meant that the house took a wee while to warm up and air. To be fair the owners were very, very helpful and it wasn't particularly a problem - but one of the bedrooms did smell for some time. Unfortunately the weather was particularly miserable with rain most days and unseasonably cold. This didn't affect our little boy enjoying the garden (in the rain) or us having a lovely time. There's plenty of things to keep small people occupied in the house and outside. Unfortunately La Planquette restaurant is now closed and likely to be for the foreseeable future, also the Estaminet bar was closed - I suspect this was because we went right at the start of the season. The little bar in the village was very friendly and we enjoyed the odd beer in there - be ware if you visit France over Easter a lot of the shops, bars etc. close for the whole of the holiday, and most places are shut on Sundays. To be fair we suffered a little bit with the weather, but am sure that in the summer the garden is beautiful. The house is well equipped generally, and there are plenty of things for the children to do. I would recommend the property and consider using it again.

"A rural haven."
A lovely comfortable country house is a quiet peaceful location. Very easy to reach from London. Great for children and parents needing to unwind. My 6 year old boy spent hours in the play room and the garden whilst we were able to read or sit in the sunny garden sipping wine !! The local beaches are very good but our favourite was Merlimont . Market day in Le Touquet is a must as is a trip to Montreuil - a beautiful town. There are plenty of activities for children such as water parks , steam train rides, a large aquarium and many more. Enjoy!
