La Gratitude has the best location in Hermanus, being the closest house to Grotto beach in Voelklip. Yet the house enjoys splendid seclusion, being built on 3000 square meters of gently sloping grass rimmed by indigenous vegetation. Its generous proportions can sleep a maximum of 10 people comfortably. It is seaside home of one of the Cape’s most historically prominent families, La Gratitude offers superb, understated luxury with unsurpassed, uninterrupted views across Walker Bay. Situated just steps away from both secluded coves and a 12 km stretch of pristine beach. The cliff path begins meters from the the house and follows the bay round to Hermanus village. The interior is designed in the simple luxurious elegance of a by-gone age. There is a thoroughly modern kitchen with all conveniences, as well as two sitting rooms, with Satellite TV, DVD, VCR, and music system

The Western Cape region

Hermanus has a dry Mediterranean climate. The town has the best land based whale watching in the world. The best months for seeing whales are September till November. The best summer months are November till April, although the Indian Summer in May, is favoured by many. Hermanus is a 150 year old fishing village, which became a premier holiday destination on the South African coast 100 years ago and still remains one of the most popular sea-side spots.

Hermanus area

La Gratitude is about 90 minutes drive from Cape Town, in an easterly direction along the garden route. It is 15 minutes drive from Hermanus village, perched above the famous beaches in the area. Hermanus, has many good restaurants, a ethnic craft market and a good range of shops. The southern most tip of Africa is a few hours drive further along the coast. Fine wines can be tasted at a number of Cape wineries within 30 minutes drive. A huge range of out-door activities are all within easy range. Fernkloof nature reserve with its rich vynbos (indigenous flora) provides excellent hikes into the mountain behind the house. There is a lagoon, on which a range of water sports are to be had, including windsurfing, water skiing and sailing. The cliff path starts meters in front of the house. The best land based whale watching in the world can be had from the cliff path or from the house itself. Hermanus has a popular 18 hole golf course and the Arabella golf estate is 30 mins drive away.

How to get there

-Hermanus is 90 minutes drive from Cape Town and Cape Town international Airport. Drive east on the N2 and take the turn off to Hermanus. Hirecars are available at the airport. We can also arrange transport for you to Hermanus.

A daily 4 hour maid service is provided with the rental. If you have other requirments for extra help, we will try and help you set these up. We can also help you with local information, such as putting you intouch with drivers, a fauna and flora expert to take you on guided walk or a tour guide.

Newly built out-door entertainment area, with swimming pool, jacuzzi on deck overlooking the sea, barbacue and dining table / seating area. Comfortable Teak Pool longers and chairs with cushions are in this area.

There is a 2 week minimum booking over Easter and 3 weeks over Christmas or New Year, although other requests will be considered.

Non refundable 50% deposit required to confirm vacation rentals over Christmas and New year. For the rest of the year a 50% deposit is required to make a booking. This 50% deposit becomes non-refundable 30 days prior to arrival date. The balance of payment and a R6000 refundable deposit is required 2 weeks before booking date. The R6000 deposit will be returned less any breakages, phone usage etc within 30 days of departure. NO SHOWS AND CANCELLATIONS WITHIN 48HRS WILL BE CHARGED THE FULL RATE.
