Cottage | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 3
Near the whale-watching coast of Hermanus, In the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, overlooking the vineyards of Hamilton Russell, you'll come across Earth Cottage. It's the ideal self-catering Hermanus breakaway.
The cottage is tucked away on a smallholding in the valley, and yet it's only 6 km from the beach.
Hermanus town is a stone's throw away. Hermanus self-catering cottages in the valley are sought-after, and few and far between. Earth Cottage, on the other hand, is close to everything.
Earth Cottage is comfortable and cosy. From the master bedroom you'll have sweeping views over the pinot noir vineyards of Hamilton Russell, and our own humble (but generous) veggie garden.
It is the ideal self-catering bridal retreat or stay-over for a couple, or perhaps a family of three. DSTV comes standard. So does free uncapped Internet – on your laptop.
The lounge and dining area looks out over one of our paddocks. Our Arabian horses are almost always in sight.
In the kitchen you'll find a two-burner gas stove, microwave oven, kettle, mini-fridge, washing machine and ample cutlery and crockery.
Towels, linen and braaiwood will be ready for you.
Our water comes from the mountain falls. The brownish colour of the water – in the taps and in the splash pool (which doubles as a fish pond) – is the result of the roots of fynbos plants “dyeing” it.
At Earth Cottage, you'll become intensely aware of nature, even though it is a working smallholding. We live close to the earth here.
The pleasures of the rest of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Hermanus, Walker Bay, the lagune and Onrust are just down the road. La Vierge Restaurant is a mere 2 km away.

The Western Cape region
The town of Hermanus, once a quaint fishing village, offers Africa's best land-based whale watching. More or less parallel to the coastline, the Hemel-en-Aarde Valle (meaning Heaven and Earth Valley) is a fertile tract of land where vineyards and orchards offer their abundance. A number of famous wine estates produce and sell their prized wines here in the valley, and many of these establishments have their own restaurants.
Hermanus on the Cape Whale Coast is famous for its champagne air, breathtaking views, cliff top and Fernkloof walks (over 1600 fynbos species), pristine beaches, numerous outdoor activities, and the best land based whale watching in the world.
The Hemel-en-Aarde valley is home to world-renowned wineries. This picturesque valley with cool maritime climate and excellent soil composition produces some of the most unique varieties and interesting blends found in the world.

"Yes, we'll come back!"
Let's start with some words of warning: that rooster has to crow for hours in the morning, the WiFi signal is super weak and the water is brown (yet drinkable). Done. About the assets, it is a ch… More

"Peace and quiet, great views and loved the animal life close by."
Friendly welcome by the Liane, A lovely surprise visit to the ducks, chickens and horses a couple of meters away from the cottage. A surprisingly cool cottage in the heat of the day. We loved the walks and the runs up to the top of the mountain overlooking Hermanus Town. The drive to the village in only 5 minutes and only a 3km drive to Hermanus beaches and town with lovely walks along the coastline. It beats a B&B or Hotel for a nice rustic stay. We will return soon. Thank you Tino and Liane.

"Romantic valley cottage"
The Earth cottage is a slice of heaven. Private, peaceful and fully furnished. It is the ideal base to explore the Hemel en Aarde Valley close to Hermanus in South Africa.
The hosts, Tino and Liane are fantastic. Super friendly and very helpful. The cottage is great for a couple looking for a romantic getaway or a small family. There are horses, chickens and some beautiful golden retriever's.

"Beautiful, relaxing and exactly what you need to recharge your batteries."
We really enjoyed our stay, and would definitely visit again soon. The beautiful views & farm feeling with all the necessities makes it the perfect weekend getaway for a couple. I would definitely recommend the Earth cottage if you want to escape the busy city life. The added bonus is that it is very close to Hermanus Town centre as well if you need anything.

"peace and tranquility in the hills"
This quaint little cottage is nestled in the, not well known, Hermanus wine lands, just 5 minutes outside of the main town.
My boyfriend and I spent two glorious, peaceful nights in this spacious home and would have stayed longer if it wasn't for work.
The horses can be heard neighing in the distance, and come to the fence to greet you, which is a mere 4 m from the porch. The only sounds that can be heard at night are that of nature gently rocking you to sleep. I would recommend this cottage to anyone seeking a break from the every day rush of city life, the views are stunning and you are left in peace to enjoy your vacation. The only thing that may disturb you is the color of the water, which you needn't be concerned about, as it comes from the mountains (all the water in the area looks brown/red in color, and separate drinking water is provided) and is perfectly safe to use for washing up and bathing.
All crockery and cooking utensils are provided, all you need to bring is your food (which you can get in the town, or dine at one of the many vineyard restaurants on the road if you prefer) There is also a braai facility (barbecue) so be sure to make use of that.
I would recommend this place in the summer months so you can be outside and enjoy the fresh air and views of the rolling hills and grapevines.
