The Western Cape region

Things to do in the Cape Overberg:

Discover the wonders of our Cape fynbos with a visit to a local Fynbos farm.Fynbos is a wonder of the natural world. Nowhere else on earth are so many plant species crammed into such a small area."

There are seven nature reserves in the Overberg regio to visit.

Or do you prefer to do some winetasting on one the exelent winefarms?

Watersports like lobster diving, snorkling, boadtrips to whales and the Great White Shark, canoeing, or a rivercruise.

Daytrips to Capetown Stellenbosch,Franschhoek or beautiful villages like Swellendam.

Less than an hour away is Cape L’Agulhas (Cape of Needles), the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. The lighthouse is the second oldest working lighthouse in South Africa.

Caledon spa, hot-springs and casino is an hour’s drive away. Perfect for a cold day.

There are a number of golf courses only a short drive away.

The Overberg has more than 330 bird species with at least 20 endemic species. This impressive diversity is due to the variety of habitats in the area.

Hermanus / Gansbaai area

Gansbaai is now reputed world-wide to be the best place to see and dive with this impressive apex predator.
Surface view or cage dive with the Great White in its natural feeding ground around Dyer Island, just offshore of Gansbaai. The white shark seafari lasts about 4 hours, and begins with a 20 minute boat trip from Kleinbaai Harbour to Dyer Island.

Explore the spectacular Klipgat Cave, which is a short walk from Cliff Lodge. This cave was under water twice in its recent history due to changing climatic conditions. Middle Stone Age people occupied the cave about 60 000 to 50 000 years ago when the sea level was much lower, and the coast was 3 - 7km away. The remains left by these people are amongst the earliest in the world belonging to modern man. During the later Stone Age 2 000 years ago, early herders (Khoekhoe) also inhabited the cave. They left stone and bone artifacts, ornaments and remains of the animals they ate. Some of the earliest pottery in South Africa was also found in the cave.

Enjoy a horse ride through the fynbos or along the beach.

Walking trails including the Duiwelsgat hiking trail from Gansbaai to De Kelders (7km) which runs along the cliffs. There are many interesting trails in the surrounding area ranging from short, easy walks to longer hikes.

Visit Danger Point Lighthouse, the scene of one of the most famous shipwrecks in history, that of the HMT Birkenhead.

Enjoy a leisurely boat trip down the Stanford river, or visit the brewery, dairy and wine farm near this quaint village.

Pamper yourself with a variety of massage treatments in the house, such as aromatherapy, reflexology and shiatsu. (Pre-booking is advised.)

Guestbook

A couple from Holland with their relatives:
"We had a wonderful time in the Cherry, the sea, the wind, the fantastic location, just beautiful. We left with pain in our hart.
Compliments for the design, the materials and colours used are stunning, tasteful and surprising. The Belgian lights ( Modular) make the villa a fairytale at night.
Whatever one wishes, there is always a place in the sun or the shade.
The atmosphere of Africa, the waves on the rocks, wonderful!
We loved the Overberg regio, a hidden gem, with fynbos, Cape seals, dolphins, abundant bird and fish populations. Our walks along the beach, how romantic these were....
Good restaurants, friendly people, winefarms, golfcourses, hicking trails, I could go on and on....."

A German Family:
"Mit einem Wort: Es war gigantisch!! Ich habe mir immer wieder vorgestellt,
wie es sich wohl anfŸhlt, wenn man etwas so gro§artiges sein Eigen nennt!
Begeistert waren wir vor allem von der iPod-Docking-Station, so da§ wir
unsere 80 GB Music voll auskosten konnten :-))
