The Matschiedl Holiday apartment is part of a recently converted 200 year old farmhouse. The very well equipped apartment is very spacious (approx 60 sq metres) with one double bedroom, bathroom, living room with double sofa bed sleeping up to 4 people comfortably. Fully fitted kitchen with full cooker, microwave, dishwasher etc.
Set in spacious grounds with stunning views of nearby mountain views. The village of Matschiedl is small and rural. It has a Hotel/bar within 2 minutes walk and within 5 minutes drive there are numerous bars and restaurants. The delightful town of Hermagor is 10 minutes by car where all daily needs can be met. The Apartment is well placed for visiting a number of ski areas all within 15 to 45 minutes drive.There are also a wealth of summer activities possible in the surrounding area. An ideal holiday destination for families and couples who appreciate nature.

The Austrian Alps / Salzburgerland / Carinthia region
Carinthia is Austria's southernmost province, bordering Italy and Slovenia. It offers spectacular mountain scenery with around 200 lakes, warm for swimming and crystal clear. The Natural Arena of Carinthia is known as Natures playground. The beautiful countryside has high mountains, impressive gorges and lush alpine meadows. The pristine lakes are of drinking water quality and you can swim or enjoy watersports or just relax and sunbath. Most lakes have waterslides, boat hire, children's play areas and restaurants and bars. It is also a paradise for anglers.
Summer is usually very hot and sunny, ideal for swimming and water sports in the nearby lakes. Spring and Autumn are great times to visit the area without the crowds and normally enjoy warm and pleasant weather.
There a wide range of activities possible - skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, ice skating on the frozen lakes, walking, cycling, mountain biking, nordic walking, swimming, canooing, rafting, canyoning, fishing, horseriding.
There are a number of skiing areas within 45 minutes drive. The closest being only 25 minutes away is Nassfeld - one of Austria’s top 10 skiing areas and guarantees snow from December to April. It has 110 km of pistes with over 30 ski lifts and caters for beginners to expert skiers and snowboarders with a fantastic halfpipe.
A warm welcome is guaranteed by the locals who invite you to join in their many traditions and festivals. Nearby there are many pretty villages, historic towns and sophisticated resorts such as Velden on the Worthersee.
Carinthia has a continental climate with the highest sun index in Austria with temperatures rivalling the Mediterranean. In winter there is lots of snow and clear blue skies and sunshine. It is wonderful at any time of year but Spring and autumn are particularly special and wonderful for walking holidays. The autumn colours are as spectacular as New england.
Within 30 minutes you can be in Italy and in Slovenia in 45 mins.Day trips to Triest, Salzburg, Graz, Lake Bled and even Venice are possible.
Hermagor / St Stefan area
The Gailtal Valley is a beautiful region of Austria with wonderful mountain scenery and no fewer than 200 lakes. For the energetic there are more than a thousand kms of hiking trails. It is a cyclist and mountain bikers dream with a network of biking paths over a thousand kms long. You can even take your bike on the train or cable car up into the mountain. It is an ideal area for motorcylists with challenging mountain roads and twisty valley routes.
The largest main town is Villach which is 25 minutes by car. It is a very pretty town with lovely buildings, churches and wonderful shopping. It has many festivals throughout the year including the "Kirchtag" at the beginning of August which rivals the Munich Oktoberfest and fabulous Advent market prior to xmas. More leisurely pursuits include pampering yourself at the thermal baths or taking a stroll or a boat ride down the river.
The closest town is Hermagor which is 10 minutes away by car. It has a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars.

•FROM A10 •Exit at Paternion signposted Hermagor, •Follow road over mountain for about 15 minutes, you will pass through the village of Windische Hohe and then the road starts to descend steeply, •You will then come to Matschiedl, you will see the fire station on your right (marked Dorfgemeinschaft Matschiedl) followed by a sharp right hand bend, about 50 metes after the bend you will see a road off to your left and the apartment is the first yellow house on the left.
