BookThe Coastal Montenegro / Boka Kotorska Fjord region
The region has become increasingly popular over recent years, recapturing some of its fame from the 1960's when it was a destination for film stars.
Montenegro is separated from Italy by the narrow Adriatic Sea and the coastal region benefits from a pleasant Mediterranean climate, with an average summer temperature of 27°C and an average of 240 days of sunshine each year.
There are dozens of places to visit and really something for everyone, with Herceg Novi being a focus for local life in the quieter months around the bay.

The Herceg Novi / Igalo area
Herceg Novi is located at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. Founded in 1382, its defensive role is witnessed by numerous fortresses and towers, where today, on open-air stages, film, music and flower festivals are held. It also has several beautiful squares with old churches, galleries and museums as well as many fine restaurants and open-air cafés. A characteristic feature of the city is its parks and gardens with numerous plant species like palms, cikasi, magnolia, agave, banana and other Mediterranean and sub-tropical plants.Excursions available in the area include:
Exploring the medieval city of Dubrovnik, which each summer hosts the world-famous Dubrovnik Festival.
Visiting the historic Ostrog Monastery which is situated against an almost vertical background high up in the large rock of Ostroška Greda.
Taking a boat trip around the Bay of Kotor including visits to the church of the Lady of the Rock on the island of Gospa od Skrpjela and the amazing towns of Perast and Kotor.
Travelling out by night on a glass-bottomed boat to the island of Mamula to view the rich underwater beauty beneath, illuminated by searchlights to a depth of 15 metres.
Visiting Skadar Lake in the world-renowned Skadar Lake National Park - part of the largest wetland and bird reservation in Europe.
Taking a guided tour of the coastal region of Montenegro and its historic towns of Perast, Njegusi, Cetinje and Budva.
Experiencing the challenge and excitement of white water rafting on grade III rapids in the Tara Canyon, the deepest canyon in Europe.
Guided kayaking, including full instruction, around the Bay of Kotor or on Skadar Lake.
Enjoying the challenges and excitement of the high ropes adventure course at Lovcen Adventure Park followed by travelling to the summit of Mount Lovcen with its spectacular views over the Bay of Kotor.

We had a lovely stay at Villa Killara. We are a couple in our mid 30s and we found the villa spacious and well equipped for our needs. The sun terrace was amazing - beautiful views all around - and it was also good to have a covered terrace downstairs that was a bit cooler. We stayed there at the end of September and we had fantastic weather every day (28-32 temperature). The grape vines and fig tree were a great bonus, as was the little pool, which was big enough to enjoy a cool down (and if you had children would be great for them to play in). The villa is positioned up in the hills, in a private location, but it is easy to drive down to the town or explore the rest of Montenegro. We had planned a relaxing holiday doing very little but we ended up doing quite a bit (walking, white water rafting, swimming, sightseeing etc.). Our hosts, Jan and Nik, were very hospitable and friendly. Response: It was a pleasure to meet you, thank you for coming! |

Villa Killara is the perfect place to stay with friends, family or a partner. The property has anything you would want for a comfortable stay, including a great outdoor eating area and BBQ. The view from the terrace is unbelievable as is the view down to the bay from the road leading up to the property. We couldn't have asked to rent from better owners. Very accommodating and friendly. We felt very well looked after. The local area is very cheap for food and drink and there is plenty to do. The whole bay area is stunning and definitely worth a trip! I haven't stopped raving about this holiday since I came back. I'm probably annoying people now... Response: For a "bunch of graduates" you were most perfect guests. Looking forward to seeing you again. |

Great, clean equipped spacious villa ideal with two teenagers who had their own self-contained studio. Never did any cooking though apart from breakfast as the food was soooo cheap to eat out and fabulous to sit eating a lovely meal listening to the waves lapping the shore surrounded by stunning scenery. Jan the proprietor has another property close to Meljine-which is lovely and within walking distance of the beach though you wouldn't have the beautiful views/sunsets from the sun terrace or the lovely sheltered terrace out of the sun in a morning that you have at Villa Killara. Although the pool was a little smaller than we expected we had great fun playing Volleyball and it was nice to cool down in. There is a lovely seating area and BBQ though we never got a chance to use it You can park up in Igalo 50-70cents an hour and walk all the way along the front which is lovely. Or hire a couple of sun lounges-from as little as ten euro often with waiter service and cool down/ swim in the lovely clear blue waters. Jan arranged a night in the mountains where we went white water rafting, river a little tame unlike the drive up there, (Montenegrins enjoy overtaking on blind bends) but the scenery was amazing. Stayed in a quaint villa and though the lady could speak no English she was truly lovely though I think she would have supplied us with food and drink forever. The bay is beautiful and the walk up the ramparts at Kotor a must. Tivat marina worth a visit to see the amazing boats. Had a nice trip down to Budva, the old town very quaint, little bit more expensive, very lively but preferred to be staying in the bay. A day trip on a boat to the blue cave and Cejine beach a great day out (9 euros each) but very hot so save for the second week or cream up well. The food in the restaurants was of a good standard and similar price (around 40-50 euro including drinks for family of 4). Kids loved the meat and chips and especially the ice cream at 50cents!! Not ideal if you're a vegetarian though, you may have to live on salads, pizza and pasta. Seafood was lovely especially the black/red risotto. Oh and their draft beer great at around 1euro 80 cents All in all we had a truly wonderful family break and our kids who are14 & 17 had a great time too. Jan & Nick – thank you you were great hosts- nice to have that personal touch as you never know when booking direct. Montenegro is a little gem of a place and long may it remain that way. Response: We were very pleased to hear that we have contributed a little towards a memorable holiday. You came as guests, but left as friends.... Thank you for choosing Montenegro and Villa Killara for your holiday destination. |
