The Central England / Cotswolds / Oxfordshire region

Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty within the Chiltern Valley, Henley-on-Thames is a fantastic place to visit. The area is renowned for its extensive beech woods, rolling hills and of course the famous River Thames.
The historic university town of Oxford is within 40 minutes drive and heading along the M4 to neighbouring Berkshire, Windsor and Ascot are in easy reach.
Despite being just an hour away from London, Henley-on-Thames has a rural charm all of its own. This riverside town is very scenic with its ancient Tudor buildings, market square and imposing town hall. The people are very friendly too - and so polite. We love to welcome all visitors from far and wide.
The Henley-on-Thames area
During the Henley Royal Regatta in the first week in July, the town is buzzing with activity. If you've never visited the Regatta before, don't be shy, even if you don't have Royal enclosure tickets, it's easy to join in the fun.
Just bring your glad rags (hats are only needed if you go in the Royal Enclosure) but you may want to dress up anyway just for the hell of it. But if you want to start off gently, why not visit the Henley Women's Regatta in the last week of June? It's quieter, but just as interesting.
For music lovers, the Henley Festival is a must, which starts the 2nd week in July. The festival is graced by top stars such as Catherine Jenkins, Lesley Garrett and The Gypsy Kings to name just a few. (visit www.henleyfestival.co.uk for more information).
From our property you can easily walk to the river and town for any of these superb suummer events
You also get a free view of the spectacular firework displays from our property that takes place after both the Regatta and the Henley music festival!
In September, the Literary Festival is becoming an unmissable event too.
In Henley, we love our markets - there's one every Thursday and a monthly farmer's market. Every couple of months, we also visited by the French Market.
There are all kinds of interesting shops from gift shops to award-winning butchers, frequented by the likes of Anthony Worrall-Thomson. This area is a magnet for celebrities, so you may find yourself looking out for them in the local Waitrose!
Henley-on-Thames has a plethora of good restaurants including Italian, French, Chinese, Indian and loads of gastro pubs.
Don't forget to visit the River and Rowing Museum, rowing enthusiast or not, there's so much to do and see there.
Further afield there are many gorgeous villages to go and visit including Turville where The Vicar of Dibley is filmed. Spend a day in Windsor, just half an hour away, and don't forget to visit the Castle. Younger visitors would appreciate a day at nearby Legoland, open from March to October.
In the other direction, the university city of Oxford is unmissable. The Ashmolean Museum is a glorious place to visit, as are the many ancient buildings and churches.
