The Central England/Cotswolds region

South Oxfordshire is one of Britain's most beautiful regions and includes 47 miles of the Royal River Thames and the rolling Chiltern Hills. There are some fantastic places to visit throughout the region including the bustling towns of Henley-on-Thames, Didcot, Wallingford and Thame and quaint, relaxed villages like Dorchester and Little Wittenham.

Henley-on-Thames

Henley on Thames is known for its beautiful position on the River Thames which is home to the Henley Royal Regatta and the Henley festival. The town is overlooked by beautiful Chiltern landscape of wooded hills and green fields. Just a few strides from the riverbank is the very heart of Henley with its historic church, town hall and market square. The town has many varied shops, boutiques, galleries, antique shops, cafes and restaurants. The stretch of river between the regatta finish and Henley Bridge is the location for the annual Henley Festival of Music and Arts. Now a popular hospitality venue it attracts some of the world´s top entertainers to perform on a floating stage in front of a dinner-jacketed audience and the site includes exhibitions of art and sculpture. Other festivals and events which take place throughout the year include The Lterary Festival - 5 days of stimulating talks be renowned public figures. The Rewind Festival - 2 days of 80's music in a carnival atmosphere, The Thames Traditional Boat Rally, Stonor Park Summer Concert and The Henley Womens Regatta.

Visitors can enjoy a boat trip down the regatta course, either in one of the commercial boats that operate along this stretch or, rather more energetically, in a rowing boat. The River and Rowing Museum is unique and well worth a visit, at the entrance are the statues of Olympians, Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent. Afterwards you can relax in the well-maintained Mill Meadows public park which also has a delightful cafe and childrens playground area. During your stay we will be glad to provide you with information and our knowledge of the local area.

For culture lovers just 30mins away is the historic City of Oxford known as the 'The City of Spires' There are also many National Trust houses and gardens to see in the area such as Stonor Park, Greys Court, Basildon Park, Hughenden Maror just to name a few, For nature lovers there is Nature Reserves such as Warburg Nature Reserve, Stonor Valley and Watlington Hill. For those that enjoy walking there is The Thames Path, The Ridgeway Path, The Chiltern Way and the Oxfordshire Way all of these pass through or close to Henley.

There are some lovely resturants in and around Henley. The Angel on the bridge is well known for its lovely food and fabulous views of the Thames. There are Italian resturants, Tapas Bars and the coffee/patisserie shop Maison Blance, as well as many other lovely cafe's and resturants and country Pubs serving delicious and well-priced food

You may find that with so many great things to see and do on offer in Henley and South Oxfordshire, you might just have to stay a little longer. Whether you are planing a relaxing weekend away or a short break, you'll be sure to find a range of attractions and activities to keep everyone happy. Life here is not just about teashops and gentle strolls along the river bank. The area has numerous activities and adventures sure to provide a wealth of fun-filled memories for everyone that visits.

"Charming"

The studio retreat is a lovely relaxing spot from which to enjoy Henley! The owners are wonderfully kind and helpful. The space is clean and attractive and easy to inhabit. The bunnies and pheasant and ponies on the green fields right outside the window create a relaxing and calm "retreat" indeed! The space is quiet and the bed is divine. The owners were very kind about driving us back and forth from town regularly--the walk is not terribly long but it is on a busy road and a bit too long for wet weather or if carrying groceries for the well set up kitchen. We enjoyed our stay a great deal!

We had a lovely time, enjoyed the outside space and privacy afforded by the owners who never bothered us but were available if we needed them.
