The Byre at La Nouette (cottage)

Star gazing ? Beach combing ? Gastronomy ? Swimming / cycling / walking/ golfing or just chilling ? Whatever kind of holiday you enjoy, The Byre makes a perfect base! With two bedrooms and two shower rooms it is ideal for couples or families. The spacious open plan ground floor is light and airy with oak beams and tiled floor, with cosy carpeted area around the wood stove. You will find a well equipped kitchen, dining table and cosy sitting area with sofas and wood stove. Two sets of french doors open onto the south facing terrace, equipped with patio furniture and BBQ, and overlooking La Nouette's colourful gardens. We have given careful attention to detail in the hope that The Byre provides everything you would expect for a relaxing and peaceful holiday. We have a good sound system, English satellite TV, DVD & video player, electric heating, and wood stove. Linen is provided but you will need to bring your own towels.

The Brittany / Cotes-D'Armor region

This area hosts some of the finest unspoilt coastline in France. You will find an amazing variety of vast sandy beaches with safe bathing ( life guards on duty in summer months) , sailing and wind-surfing, rock pools and wonderful cliff path walks. At low tide you can see the "buchots" on which mussels are grown and can watch them being harvested from the special amphibious vehicles. Whilst offering holidaymakers the modern amenities they would expect from sea-side towns, resorts such as St Cast and Dinard still reflect the history of 19th century Victorians who first holidayed in these parts. Inland from Dinard and St Malo the River Rance meanders down to the fabulous mediaeval city of Dinan, where you can walk around the city ramparts, taking in the stunning views of the inland port and surrounding countryside.

Henanbihen area

Henanbihen village is just a kilometre from The Byre. There are 2 boulangeries, 2 bars, a small supermarket , a butcher and tabac. We also have a doctor's surgery and pharmacy and even a florist!. There are so many beaches and historic towns to explore, that a fortnight's holiday won't be long enough! Most local towns have a colourful weekly market. In the summer there are numerous festivals, with music and traditional dancing , fireworks and of course lots of food and drink! Best value for eating is the " menu ouvrier" , a set lunchtime menu which offers 3/4 courses, including drinks for around £10 ! There are several golf courses within a 15 minute drive, but beware, the scenary is so stunning you may be put off your stroke!

How to get there

La Nouette is 5 miles inland from the Penthievre Coast of northern Brittany. The resort towns of Erquy, Sables d'Or and Val Andre are equidistant, all within an easy 10 minute drive. We are approximately 20 miles from Dinard airport and 25 miles from the ferry port of St Malo.
Ryanair - www.ryanair.com - operates a service to Dinard from Stanstead and E Midlands airports.
Brittany Ferries - www.brittanyferries.com - offers a nightly ferry service from Portsmouth to St Malo. Brittany Ferries also operates to Caen, Cherbourg and Roscoff ,each of which are a 2- 3 hour drive from La Nouette. We are able to offer discount rates with Brittany Ferries.

Many of our guests have mentioned how well situated The Byre is for access to so many wonderful beaches, and interesting towns. Yet it is so peaceful that many have found a highlight of their holiday has been the opportunity to sit and enjoy the garden.

A small south facing patio ,with table and chairs and BBQ, opens onto the delightful La Nouette garden with lawns and flower beds. La Nouette is our family holiday home, so you may have to share the garden at times.
We have a large rear garden which is accessible from a lane that runs along the side of the property. Guests may use this at their own risk.

On arrival you will find a helpful holiday pack with tourist brochures, suggestions for restaurants and walks, where to find the best markets, tide time-tables and so forth. Much of this information can be e-mailed to you in advance so you can begin your holiday plans at home !
We have an English caretaker who lives locally and so is on hand to assist should the need arise.
