About this location
The Lincolnshire region
The gently rippling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds smooth down to eastern marshlands and sandy coast, and the dyke-scored Lincolnshire Fens flat-iron the southeast. While flamboyant medieval wool-wealth churches, red-roofed stone houses and windmills grace many towns, here too you'll find arms-in-the-air beach resort Skegness and rich wildlife reserves where the loudest sound is birdsong.
Lincoln is 18 miles away and in the Bailgate area is the magnificent cathedral which is built on the highest point. The nearby castle built by William the Conqueror is also home to the Magna Carta. The area between these buildings is the site of the famous Christmas Market held annually in December. Look for Brayford Pool and Wharf and sit and rest a while watching the world pass by.
The coastal resorts of Skegness and Mablethorpe offer a diverse range of entertainment for both young and old and November is good time to visit Donna Nook to see the seals 'pupping'.
Aviation enthusiasts may wish to visit the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby, The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby or RAF Digby and Metheringham.
A great place to take a break from the chaos of modern life and revive your senses in this hidden treasure in the Lincolnshire Wolds, which remains a well kept secret. Horncastle is a small gently bustling market town with a market held twice a week.
There are numerous vintage antique shops and an assortment of pubs, restaurants and take-aways to cater for all.
