The South East England / Hertfordshire region
Located in the south-east of England, Hertfordshire is a county that has it all. From vibrant towns and picturesque villages to rolling countryside and thriving shopping centres. Central London is a 20 minute train journey away and London Luton and Stansted airport are both located just a few miles outside of the county. Hertfordshire is a very Green county with almost half of it being designated as Green belt land by the Government, the varied landscape is made up by scenic woodland, farmland and pretty river valleys, making this an ideal destination for walkers and nature observers. The Chiltern Hills located to the west of Hertfordshire have been designated as an Area of Outstanding Beauty.
For those wanting an more energetic holiday, a day out to one of the many towns and villages is a must. Watford is the largest town in Hertfordshire and is great for shopping and eating out. St. Albans, Hitchen and Hertford are also worth a visit.
Hertfordshire has a range of tourist attractions to visit and activities to get involved with that range from museums, stately homes and historic houses, to many modern recreation and leisure facilities.
Hemel Hempstead area
Hemel Hempstead starkly contrasts historic tradition and modern innovation. A town of two constituent parts in the form of old and new town centres, Hemel Hempstead offers a diversity that can be guaranteed to cater for all tastes. The old town centre with its distinctive church spire, listed buildings and specialist shops, is certainly amongst the most attractive of Hertfordshire’s original towns. Only a stretch of road divides the quaint, peaceful atmosphere of the old town from the bustle and vibrancy of the new town with its pedestrianised high street and the stylish Marlowes Shopping Centre.
Hemel Hempstead’s urban lifestyle is not without open-air facilities. This is a town where two rivers – the Bulbourne and the Gade – converge, and where the excellent English tradition for town parks is upheld. Approaching Hemel from the south and the conveniently located A41 bypass, traces a route through Heath Park with its attractive park gardens. Entering the town from the north cuts a passage through the delightful grounds of Gadebridge Park, which is open to the public and offers a variety of activities including crazy golf, bowls, a children’s paddling pool (open from May to September), and a picnic area with tables. The natural beauty of the parkland is matched by the horticultural design of the Water Gardens, completed in 1961 to run parallel to the new town high street, and following the plans of the famous architect, Sir Jeffrey Jellicoe. The Water Gardens attract a wealth of wildlife to their banks, and have proved a particularly popular landmark in the summer months with residents and visitors alike.
In contrast to the relaxing and leisurely pursuits provided by the parklands, the thriving and popular Leisure World at Jarman Park offers a wide range of energetic activities including Aquasplash Water Park, Toddler’s World Play Zone, a themed ice rink, bowling, ten-pin bowling, games machines, cinemas, pubs and clubs. For even more frenzied activity there are the themed laser activities at Quasar in the Marlowes Centre, or for sporting enthusiasts the dry slopes at the Hemel Ski Centre for skiing and snow boarding.
Town life in Hemel Hempstead offers a diverse experience for all concerned. It offers not only diversity but also accessibility. The town has excellent transport connections with the A41 bypass and its connection to junction 20 of the M25 only minutes away, and with the rail link from Hemel into central London, on the Birmingham-Euston line, the capital is easily accessible within thirty minutes.
The moor is also home to the annual Steam Fair and the `Music on the Moor` concerts. The new Hemel Hempstead shopping precinct is close to the site and boasts a Debenhams department store, coffee shops and restaurants supplementing a wide range of established bars and eateries around the town centre. The historic old town also offers further restaurants together with The Old Town Hall Arts Centre offering a packed programme of music, comedy, drama and local and national exhibitions. The Sports Centre is within a hundred yards of Heath Park offering gym, squash, swimming etc. The site directly overlooks Heath Park Gardens, the Hemel Hempstead Cricket Club ground and St. John`s Church. Within a short walking distance is the Silverlink rail station giving easy access to Euston (approximately 20 minutes) and north to Milton Keynes, Birmingham and Manchester. The A41 link is close, giving speedy access to the M25. The M1 is within three miles. Heath Park therefore represents a great opportunity to live in an ultra modern home in an historic and picturesque environment close to all amenities.
