FLORA DAY HELSTON
Wed 8th May 2013 - book early for Flora Day 2013 - Week still available. It is easy to get to and from Helston from the Yurt and you are away from the madding crowd when you wish to be.
They cancelled as they were worried about the weather and that the Yurt field would be boggy. I assure everyone that the field is never boggy due to its location on a hill with good drainage and there is no mud , just nice short grass.
All those that have stayed in the Yurt in this wetter weather have enjoyed it. The Yurt is cosy dry and warm with the wood burning stove sand in fact except for a couple of downpours a week most have had very nice days. Perhaps not what it shoud be for July but all have made it to the beach and been able to get out and about to enjoy their holiday here.
The Yurt is nineteen feet across with standing room all round the inside of the yurt and sits on a wooden floor platform with rugs and carpets. It sleeps 5. If you have a bigger party or friends sharing we have another bigger yurt which sleeps 6 and for very large parties or 2 families sharing we can put them both up for you.
We never let the two Yurts out to separate parties so your holiday will always be private and exclusive
The Yurt is a genuine Mongolian Yurt made in Mongolia, but built to specifications adapted to the UK climate. It has painted orange poles reaching up to the overhead wheel with a clear window to the sky and a proper wooden door. It is lined with 3 layers of covering including felt for warmth and noise insulation and finished with Mongolian embroideries around the walls.
There is a double bed, a double futon, a single Mongolian bench bed and a put 'u' up bed for an extra guest, plus a travel cot if needed. We supply all linen and a basic set of towels.
The Yurt also has a cloth covered wardrobe, a storage chest, coffee table, a 12 volt table lamp, cushions if you wish to sit on the floor and you can also sit on the futon and Mongolian bench single bed. It is equipped with board games and books for nights in.
It is equipped with a wood burning stove which provides heat.
However there is a separate kitchen cabin for cooking with a full sized a cooker with oven and grill, a sink, food storage cool box & 12 volt mini fridge. There is a sink and water in the kitchen but no hot water on tap. You can either boil the kettles supplied for hot water or fetch hot water for washing up from the washroom.
The kitchen, washroom and toilet have 12 volt lighting run via solar powered batteries. All cooking and eating equipment is supplied as are solar, battery or wind up lanterns for extra light and walking between areas at night time.
If you want to cook and eat alfresco, there are benches and a chimera (which can also be used as a barbecue) plus a fire pit .
**Electricity in the Yurt
---------------------------------------
**Please note - There is no 240 volt electricity in the Yurt!
Therefore there are no electric kettles, hairdryers, TVs, DVD players, game consoles (except portable if you wish to bring them) irons, microwaves etc ion the Yurt or anywhere in the Yurt area.
All electricity in the Yurt and in the kitchen and bathroom is 12 volt and runs off of 12 volt batteries charged by solar panels or topped up by us if they run down during your stay.
Items that require high power such as an electric kettle, iron, microwave, hairdryers etc cannot be plugged into the 12 volt electricity supply.
There is a cool box and a 12 volt fridge in the Yurt for your use that can both be plugged into your car socket to cool food down or into a 12 volt to 240 volt inverter we supply that runs off of the battery connected to solar panels and as long as there is enough sunlight you can use the inverter to run the cool box the fridge and recharge mobile phones and other batteries.
If the sun is not sufficient to charge the batteries or run the cool box or fridge and you do not wish to plug them into your car just ask us to plug either into the house when needed.
We have solar panels for our house that generate 240 volt green electricity so there is a large chest freezer in an outbuilding we can put your frozen items into if required, just ask, and a small fridge in the house conservatory for your exclusive use should you need more fridge space than the cool box and 12 volt fridge supplies or if there is not enough sun to recharge the solar powered batteries. You may also use the sockets in the conservatory to use a hairdryer etc.
You can also plug mobile phones portable game, music, TV and DVD systems to recharge into the inverter or if the sun fails us in the conservatory sockets if you so wish.
In a nearby wood cabin, is a shower and hand basin which has constant hot water plus a luxury eco composting toilet imported from Canada, and run by solar power.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You have sole use of these facilities.
However if your party is too large for one Yurt or you wish for more comfort or to share your week and facilities with another family we now have a 5 metre SoulPad Tipi we can put up as extra sleeping space for up to 4 people -Please contact us for a price as it varies according to the time of year. However as the Tipi is only for extra sleeping space and those using it share the Yurt field and all the Yurt facilities, the price is not equivalent to hiring the first Yurt or even the Tepee on its own.

Further details outdoors:
Unlike many Yurts available for holidays this Yurt is set on its own in its own 1 acre field that you will have exclusive use of during your stay.
You will not share the area with other holiday visitors and this is something that is priceless and rarely found in the UK in the holiday season.
However if your party is over 5 persons or you wish to holiday in a group or with relatives of another family you know, we can put up another Yurt just for your extended party. So you have two Yurts with shared facilities i.e kitchen, bathroom and the field and outdoor tables and fire pit etc.
The Yurt is on a wooden deck in a field on its own but with a car parking area reserved to guests of the Yurt.
The situation is very secluded and surrounded on two sides by Cornish hedgerows and trees with an open view to the south that stretches out across Cornwall to the sea and at least 300 meters from the nearest road up a private lane to the smallholding.
Therefore it is a very safe area for children and dogs away from any traffic.
Further details
Internet access ( Ethernet or wireless) is available - although you may have to sit outside the farmhouse to get it!!
However this is slow compared to urban places so do not expect fast speeds. To access our internet you need to be a member of BT Fon or Openzone
If you do not wish to cook every night, there is a local pub that does very good food, within an easy walking distance and many other places to eat nearby.
We supply a cool box for milk and other essentials that you can plug into your car to cool down but if you have frozen food or require to refrigerate food we have a fridge for your exclusive use in a building off our the main farmhouse and a freezer in an outbuilding nearby that you can use.
Of course there is no washing machine in the Yurt but we are happy to do a service wash and dry at any time for visitors for less than the cost of a launderette.

BookThe West Country / Cornwall region
Cornwall is a wonderful place for a holiday. Famous for its beaches, countryside, surfing, walking, fishing, mining and ancient heritage, and more recently seafood restaurants and other local produce.

The Helston area
Porkellis a village in West Cornwall about 4 miles from Helston.
While Porkellis is an un-spoilt farming village has much of interest within easy distance. It is situated in the world heritage area of mining, http://www.worldheritagecornwall.com/mines/porkellis-moor.htm. There is a local pub called the Star Inn which is children and people friendly and is a free house so serves good real ale, http://www.thingstodoincornwall.co.uk/far_west/pubs_2.html
Porkellis is not on the coast but is ideally situated for exploring the lovely Peninsular of the Lizard and all the West Cornwall beaches and visiting the many tourist attractions of Cornwall.
Porthleven harbour is our nearest fishing port. It is a very big harbour as it was originally a harbour where local tin was shipped to all parts of the world. Now, it is a lovely fishing harbour with lovely picturesque pubs such as the Ship Inn that also does wonderful family meals, many acclaimed restaurants and lovely views (I can supply pictures of Porthleven via email if requested).
Poldark Mine, http://www.poldark-mine.co.uk/ is just down the road within walking distance if you like walking. Flambards Theme Park http://www.flambards.co.uk/ is only a 10 minute car drive away.
Other attractions nearby include the National Maritime Museum – in Falmouth about 5 miles, National Seal Sanctuary and Goonhilly Earth Station – both on the Lizard see map. Further a field are the Eden Project, Lands End, Newquay Zoo, Tintagel Castle, Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre, Geevor Tin Mine, Blue Reef Aquarium and St. Michael’s Mount to name but a few.
Sports:
Cycling - We are on the Lands End to John O'Groats cycle route, so there are many back lanes for cycling and bridal paths for mountain biking - we can supply a range of bicycles plus maps of routes for different age groups. The bikes are not new but are maintained and useful for the occasional family cycle
Water sports - Many water sports are offered at our local reservoir at Stithians Lake http://www.itsadventuresouthwest.co.uk/main/en/provider-12172.html http://www.itsadventuresouthwest.co.uk/main/EN/weblink-12172.cfm
Cycling and surfing
We can offer you use of a variety of cycles, and body boards so you do not have to pack your own.
For bicycle use just let me know your approximate height and I will see if I have one to suit. However while well maintained please understand the bicycles are not new so are for short leisurely local rides and not sport biking and you ride them at your own risk.
We do not supply safety equipment, therefore the provision of helmets etc would be up to you.
Riding
There are several local riding stables, list supplied on request. You are also welcome to bring a horse or pony for a DIY riding holiday as there are many wonderful rides in the area. We can provide stabling and grazing but there would be an extra charge for this.

For those who like fishing -
Porkellis is just down the road from the Stithians reservoir, which provides fishing http://www.chycor.co.uk/general/fishing/peninsla/peninsla.htm There is also a coarse fishery just a short walk down the village lanes at Middle Boswin: http://www.ukfisherman.com/venues_cornwall.htm http://www.cornwall-online.co.uk/waterside/fishing.htm

To decrease your carbon footprint it is difficult but possible to holiday here without a car. You would get a train to Redruth and bus or taxi to Porkellis.
You are welcome to stay around the smallholding and village and if you are fit it is possible to get around locally by bike, which we can supply.
This may be a welcome change for those who live in the town, but bear in mind while there is a pub within walking distance there is no where within 5 miles to buy food supplies or for other entertainment.
Therefore if you wish to go further afield without difficulty, it is advisable for guests to have transport. There is a local bus service but it does not go to all routes and stops early evening. There are many wonderful local places of interest to visit, by car, including the many local beaches.
If you use a car the most carbon friendly option would be to come by train and hire one down here. At the very least, even bringing or hiring a car you have avoided flying and you will be in a wonderful rural UK location.

Had a great time despite the unseasonal weather. Very relaxing and quiet, a beautiful spot with panoramic views. A great opportunity to concentrate on ourselves for a change. Would recommend the experience. |

I have to say we spent one of the most relaxing weeks at Barry and Veritees Yurt this week ! The weather being good just added to the appreciation of what Barry and Veritee have . The The views are next to none as you look across the Cornish countryside as you look out of the Yurt. Our two dogs thoroughly appreciated the vast field to play in , and it is a really dog friendly holiday added to by the owners lovely 3 dogs. Veritee and Barry were always on hand for advice or help but very unobtrusive in their nature, it was clear they wanted you to have a good holiday !. The accomodation was spacious and the bed was fantastically comfortable . It is great that Barry and Veritee are trying to keep their carbon footprint down to a minimum with this eco friendly Yurt . The shower room was spotless and plenty of hot water the solar panels did us proud ! The wood burner once we mastered the art of making a wood fire was beautifully warm . Barry gave us loads of tips on where to take the dogs and we took him up on all the useful local knowledge .Veritee and Barry also knew all the best places to eat and were a wealth of info if required! We found it hard to leave the Yurt as just sittting outside lapping up the Cornish views was enough at times. It was lovely to find flowers in the yurt on arrival and we found the little lights on the tent at night and around the shower hut and Yurt were so pretty. Thankyou guys for a lovely wedding anniversary week . Mandy and Alf |

As camping goes it was top notch. I loved the fire pit and the fact you had the whole field to yourself. You had everything you needed hot shower, gas cooker, fridge, cool box and views to kill for.... more Response: Thank you so much for your very positive review and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay so much. But I am so very sorry if you found the Yurt itself dusty etc. This is no excuse for the fact you... more |

The Yurt will sleep 2 to 6 but we quote for 5 as the Yurt will be more comfortable 4 to up to 5. If you wish to book for 6 please ask
If your party is more than 5, want separate sleeping space for children or you want to come with two families we can put up a SoulPad Tipi which will sleep 3 to 4. . Therefore if you wish to book the two please let us know?
The cost for the Tipi alongside the Yurt will be cheaper for the Tipi so it will not cost double for the two dwellings for the same party.
The Tipi will have the same facilities as the Yurt including a wood burner, rugs, double beds and futon etc and just as comfortable.
However you can not book the Tipi independently of the Yurt. As you will share facilities with the main Yurt but also the same as if you book the main Yurt only you will have the joy of your party having the Yurts and the Yurt field exclusively to yourselves and not having to share - as all other Yurt holiday vendors expect you to do - with other visitors outside your own party..
Dogs £10 each per week
