Home description
Priory Cottage was once a barn and now converted into a charming upside cottage with lots of woodwork, beams and deep window-sills.
Tregoning Manor is an early 18th Century Cornish farmhouse built on the site of an old Cistercian Monastery, some ruins of which are still visible today. The property is beautifully set in 10 acres within a few minutes walk of St. Keverne. There is a stream running through the grounds with a small waterfall, millpond and an old clapper bridge leading on down to the woodland area where you are welcome to wander. We live in the main house so are usually on hand to help if you have any problems.
There is an enclosed “Mowhay” (small garden) across the footpath for the use of guests in both cottages. A shed there houses various outdoor games for you to use if feeling energetic. Private off road parking for up to three cars is available.
Most dogs are welcome by arrangement but we do not accept Rottweilers, Dobermans, Alsatians, Pit/Bull Terriers or young puppies. (see conditions).
Both properties are available all year (including Christmas and the New Year), also for short breaks out of season.

The West Country / Cornwall region
The area is well known for its outstanding beauty and varied scenery from the magnificent coastline, sandy beaches and famous coves, to Goonhilly Downs and the wooded valleys and creeks of the Helford river.
St.Ives, Penzance, Falmouth and the Cathedral City of Truro are all within easy reach; as are St. Michael's Mount and many other National Trust houses and beautiful gardens (Trebah, Glendurgan, Trelissick etc.). Cornwall has recently been designated a European Cultural route of Parks, Gardens and Landscape and the gardens down here have some of the most unique plant collections in the world.
The Tate Gallery at St. Ives, Lands End, the open air Minack Theatre perched on the cliffs at Porthcurno, the Eden Project and the recently opened National Maritime Museum all make an enjoyable day out. There are several leisure parks for family outings:- Flambards, The Seal Sanctuary, Poldark Mine and Paradise Park to name but a few..
There are also some good restaurants in the area for those evenings when you do not feel like cooking. For those of a more energetic nature, the Lizard is a wonderful place for walking, especially the awe inspiring coastal path.
Helston / St. Keverne area
St.Keverne itself is one of the main villages on the Lizard. It is a friendly community set around a square with an imposing church, a chapel, two pubs, a few shops and a post office.
The parish of St. Keverne is the largest, and one of the most important historically, in Western Cornwall, lying within the district known as "Meneage", from the Cornish Meneghek meaning "monastic". It extends over some 10,300 acres, and by virtue of its great size, was from an early date divided into four distinct areas or "Turns" viz. Turn Bean ("little"), to the north-east; Turn Traboe, the north-west; Turn Trelan, to the south west: and Turn Tregarn, the east. All four met at the Church Town, or "Lankeverne", which formed a separate district in its own right.

Further details indoors: The open plan living room/kitchen is reached by stone steps leading up to a stable door. A pale pine kitchen with pretty tiles is equipped with electric cooker, fridge (small freezer compartment), a washer/dryer, microwave and ample crockery etc. The sitting/dining area has lovely views out over our garden and glimpses of the sea down through the wooded valley. There are comfortable furnishings and a wood-burning stove, which together with a T.V./video player and CD/radio make it perfect for those evenings when you want to stay at home and unwind with a bottle of wine or simply to collapse in comfort after an energetic walk.
Downstairs there is a double bedroom (4’6” bed with king sized duvet – David always hogs the lot with anything smaller), a twin bedded room with hand-built old pine cabin beds and a smart bathroom (shower above the bath) where there is ample space for your own bits and pieces. All the downstairs rooms overlook the enclosed private patio where there are a table and chairs and BBQ for those warm summer evenings – fingers crossed!!
There are electric paneled radiators throughout the cottage, which along with the stove make this a cosy winter retreat as well as a wonderful place to while away a week or two during the warmer months.
Further details outdoors: There is a private patio with garden furniture and also an enclosed "Mowhay" across the footpath for guests in both cottages to use. In it is a shed which houses various games, toys and barbecues for your use. You are welcome to wander across the two fields when there is no livestock in them and also through our small woodland.
Further details
We do ask that dogs are kept on a lead at all times around the house and courtyard at Tregoning and please do not allow them on the furniture/bedding or leave them unattended in the cottage.
