The Old Vicarage
About the home
Built in 1875, the Old Vicarage is a Grade II listed granite-built house set in approx 1.5 acres of gardens. The self contained wing is recently converted and offers the period charm of an old house but with modern facilities
The property is situated in the small village of Godolphin Cross (1 mile from Godolphin House - National Trust) in the heart of the Cornish countryside, approx 3 miles from Helston. There is a choice of local shops and several large supermarkets in Helston. The property is only a few miles from both the North and South Coasts with the Lizard, St. Ives, Penzance, St. Michaels Mount, Praa Sands and Porthleven all within 20-30 minutes drive.
The location is ideal for hikers, cyclists, surfers and kayakers or those simply wishing to take advantage of the superb local restaurants, beaches and scenery.
The property itself is ideal for a relaxing holiday or long weekend with every luxury and modern convenience supplied. The living/dining room is spacious but cosy with underfloor heating and a wood-burning stove. It is tastefully furnished with large comfortable sofas (one of which converts to a double sofa bed so two extra guests can be accommodated) and decorated with original art.
The kitchen is particularly well-equipped for those wishing to cook 'proper' meals supplied with all the usual pots and pans plus plenty of work surfaces.
Upstairs are 2 double bedrooms each with a fully-tiled en-suite shower room. The bedrooms are warm and cosy with sloping ceilings but with plenty of room for a double wardrobe, large chest of drawers and bedside tables.
Outside, guests have their own patio and are welcome to wander around the gardens and to visit our chickens (fresh eggs are available everyday).

Enquire nowThe West Country / Cornwall region
There is so much more to Cornwall than just fabulous scenery and beautiful beaches. The history of this county is rich and vivid, and never more so than when remnants of its past are stumbled upon during rambling walks through the countryside.
Cornwall has been voted 'Favourite UK Holiday County or Region' at the British Travel Awards for the last two years and has been nominated again for the 2011 awards .
Towns and villages that date back hundreds of years, with stories of wreckers and legends of old are there to be imagined when walking through narrow winding streets down to the harbour. And to bring you bang up to date there are modern art galleries to discover plus fantastic shopping with high street stores and unique boutiques and craft shops side by side.
The Helston / Godolphin Cross area
Godolphin Cross is a tranquil village situated in West Cornwall.
The village is just 5 KM from the beaches of the South Coast and yet only 10 KM from the beaches of the North Coast. The village has immediate access to all the major attraction in the area but is a haven away to escape from it all at the end of the day.
Godolphin Village is on established walking routes and has the National Trust Godolphin House and Estate within 0.5 KM. The area is rich in mining history and the iconic tin mines chimneys are seen around the area.
For those looking for a more active stay they is:
- 12 golf courses within a 20 KM range
- The South West coastal path
- Sea fishing from Porthleven and Penzance
- Surfing beaches (North and South coast)
Art galleries abound in the local area with St Ives and Falmouth both offering exceptional galleries. St Ives is also the location for the Tate Gallery and the Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden.
Being a major holiday destination area there are a number of award winning restaurants in the area specialising in a range of foods but with fresh fish being a regular on the menu.
The village itself has a local pub just 2 minutes walk from the property offering a warm welcome and good food.

I am so gratified to find an owner who furnishes (and supplies) her accommodation to the highest standards. The house is beautiful, warm and inviting, with lovely detail in its design and fitments, and surrounded by a pretty garden that was soothing even in a dreadful March climate. The owners left a generous welcome pack, supplied both ensuites with exquisite, locally manufactured Spa toiletries, had quality linens and towels, had a well-fitted kitchen with furnishings that included non-scratched (!!) Teflon pans... my pet peeve!. This might seem basic but several places we have known over the years, despite price point, have seemed to offer just motley accoutrements in a rather mean-spirited fashion. If you have a nice home you will be happy staying here !! |

Although the weather was a little uncertain we had a wonderful stay at The Old Vicarage. The owners have done a wonderful job in creating this cosy little nook, mid way between the north and south coasts. The property has two good sized bedrooms with modern ensuites, a very well equipped kitchen and a lounge/dining room with big comfy sofas and a great TV/sound system. Lots of DVDs and local books on hand was a really thoughful touch. There are nice outside spaces as well, but the weather didn't allow much of this on our visit. The location is quiet but well positioned to visit a myriad of enchanting places. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you book here. |

We had an absolutely fabulous time staying at The Old Vicarage and using it as our base to tour around Cornwall for the week. The booking process, handover at beginning and end was all super friendly and smooth with lots of information in the house to help plan your tours. In the evenings there were plenty of games, a huge DVD library and an X-Box to keep my niece amused and the house has every amenity you need to make a very comfortable stay. The house is finished to a very high luxury standard which makes the stay all the more comfortable. In terms of location it's near Helston so close to plenty of large supermarkets to get provisions and easy to get onto most of the "main" roads quickly, we went to Lizard, Minac, Falmouth, Eden Project, St Ives, Perranporth and all within easy reach. Definitely would stay again when we return to Cornwall in the future. |
