Come and relax in the crofting village of Portgower. 3km from Helmsdale. The sea view from the cottage is beautiful and the village is a wonderfully tranquil place. You can walk to the beach in a few minutes.
Enjoy walks along the beach and into the hills.
Sit in front of an open fire.
Excellent golfing nearby in Dornoch, Brora and Helmsdale.
Some of the best surfing in the UK is nearby.
Superb fishing on the River Helmsdale.
Take children gold panning!
There are cafes, restaurants, shops and a cultural centre a few minutes drive away in Helmsdale.
The house has two double bedrooms each with a double bed.
There are also two chair beds in the living room.
The upstairs bedroom has an en suite toilet.
There is a shower over the bath in the bathroom downstairs.
The kitchen has a dishwasher, washing machine, electric cooker, solid fuel range cooker and bread maker as well as all the utensils you could need.
I recommend you hire a car but busses from Inverness do stop in Portgower if you ask them to and it is a 2 minute walk from the bus stop to the cottage.
Pets are welcome and will love it along the beach.

"A lovely home from home"
We spent a week in Palm Tree Cottage in early January and had a great time. "Cottage" doesn't do the property justice really as it is a sizable house. Whilst being a traditional stone … More

I can't thank you enough for taking the time to write such a wonderful review and for giving Palm Tree Cottage Retreat five stars. It is exciting that you saw a seal on the beach at Portgower. I have never seen one there, though I see them often at Doll. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will come back soon. Lorna

We loved the position of the cottage it was clean but the room on the front was unusable as it smelt strongly of animal urine, perhaps replacing the carpet with a washable floor covering would solve t… More
The carpet in the front room is new. Currently there is a shower connection above the bath, but as the reviewer says, the new shower room is not complete. It will be installed in March 2014 and I will upload photos of it then. The heating runs from a solid fuel range cooker, so this makes it a rustic experience as you have to keep the fire lit to get the radiators working. Admittedly, this is not for everyone, but some of my guests love the experience. There is also a solid fuel stove upstairs, which you can open for an open fire.
