Skinnar is an old farm built in 1927. It belonged to the same family until recent owners bought it in 2005. The house has been renovated and is now rented out to visitors. It is approx. 100 fm2, a ground floor and an attic with all the modern facilities.
Skinnar is in Þykkvibær which is the oldest village in Iceland, situated in the south of Iceland near Mýrdalsjökull and the famous volcano Hekla. Þykkvibær is renowned for potato cultivation and elves. The amazing south shore is within a walking distance. There are no stores in Þykkvibær and very little traffic, only farmers, horses and birds. There is farm with horseback riding facilities, a church and a sports house. Þykkvibær is a great place to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Icelandic countryside. Away from tourism and traffic, but still close to some of Iceland's most popular tourist attractions. You will find most of the service you need in Hella, 17 km from Þykkvibær, such as a grocery store, gas station, bank, post office, restaurants, auto garage and a fantastic swimming pool.
Skinnar stands on a hill and the view is amazing. On a clear day you can enjoy the mountain view of volcanos and glaciers such as Ingólfsfjall, Hekla, Mýrdalsjökull, Eyjafjallajökull and also the Westman Islands. Skinnar is ideal for families and small groups. Skinnar is a great home away from home while you explore the beautiful south of Iceland.
