The cobbled streets of old Heptonstall has remained largely unchanged for 200 years, being one of the only villages in the country to boast two churches in its churchyard. Thick with history from it's heyday as a major junction on the ancient pack-horse trails and civil war battles, it is the resting place of poet Sylvia Plath, and adjacent to the village of Mytholmroyd where Ted Hughes was born.
The beautiful National Trust river valley of Cragg Vale offers spectacular walks within minutes of the door, as does Heptonstall moor and the Calderdale and Pennine Way.
And if you prefer just to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings, the village boasts two pubs, a deli/tea room and suitably equipped village shop and post office.
A short distance away the Great Rock Coop farm shop offers the best of local produce straight from the growers.
For the more adventurous in search of some night life, the Trades Club (NME best small venue finalist) is a 15min walk away (maybe longer walking back later!), which boasts an international line up of music recently having hosted the likes of The Fall, Patti Smith, King Creosote and the like.
Throughout the year Heptonstall is alive with community activities such as the ancient "Pace Egg" over the Easter Bank Holiday, The Fell Race and the nationally renowned Heptonstall Festival.
