Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 5
This gorgeous terraced cottage is right at the heart of the Peak District's prettiest village, Hayfield. It is a short walk to the foot of Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak District, and a fantastic place for hiking and mountain biking. The cottage backs on to a river and looks over the village cricket pitch. It has spectacular views across the valley from the garden where you can sit and relax and absorb the scenery. If you want to get active then why not try the hardest ascent in England on your mountain bike up Jacob's Ladder or take a gentle stroll up to the Kinder Reservoir. If you are lucky, you'll see a hare. You'll almost definitely spot grouse and pheasant.
The cottage has every comfort you could want and lots of space. There are two sitting rooms, one with an open fire and one with a gas woodburning stove. Steps take you down to a sit in farmhouse kitchen with range cooker and a big utility room, ideal for bringing dogs in the backdoor and for keeping bikes and muddy walking kit. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms with two en-suites. In the back sitting room there is a very comfy sofa bed. A huge TV and DVD player with a wide range of DVDs, great broadband wifi and beautiful artwork on every wall. There is also a second TV in the kitchen.
Amenities: Open fire in living room. Gas woodburner in second living room included. Gas central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Two Freeview TVs. DVD. iPod docks. Gas hob. Electricity oven. Range. Microwave. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Small garden with sitting-out area and furniture. Barbecue. On road parking. Cycle store. Welcome pack. In the village there are four pubs, a wine bar, a shop, post office, butcher, greengrocer and pharmacy. There is also a fantastic chippie!

The Peak District National Park region
The Peak District is one of the most beautiful regions of England and has the oldest national park in the UK. Hayfield nestles at its centre. It is still close enough to get to Manchester for a night out but within ten minutes walk of Nellie's Cottage you can be right out in the wild moorlands.
If you like beautiful scenery and outdoor activities, then this is the place for you. There is amazing mountain biking from the doorstep - including the infamous Edale Loop. If hiking is more your style then you can go for a gentle stroll up past our village landmark of 20 Trees or go for the big one and ascend Kinder Scout, the highest peak in the area. Or take a short drive and find some excellent fishing, horse riding and golfing - the area has all three.
Chatham House, Lyme Park, and the beautiful old spa town of Buxton are a short drive or bus ride away. There you can visit the historic sites, or wander around the gorgeous gardens. There is also a great theatre in Buxton and a charming old fashioned cinema in Marple - where they do ice creams at the interval.
Nellie's Cottage is well provided with books, maps and ideas to help you choose what you want to do - or just relax in the garden or by the fire and let life's stresses pass you by.
Hayfield is easily situated for transport links. It is an hour from the M1 and 20 minutes from the M6 arterial routes. There are train stations 2 1/2 miles away at New Mills, Glossop and Chinley with an excellent bus route to all three.
Manchester is on the doorstep with all its amenities and nightlife as well as exhibitions, museums and galleries.
Canals criss cross the region and there is a delightful canal boat dinner cruise which sets off from Whaley Bridge.
All the shops you need are in the village but the market towns of Glossop and Buxton have all the major stores and chains if some extra shopping is needed. In addition there is an excellent greegrocer and delicatessen in Chinley which is well worth a visit.
The nearest golf is at Glossop of Buxton - both challenging courses. There is horse riding just outside Edale and para gliding also out of Edale. And no trip to the Hope Valley is complete without an exploration of the Caves!
Anyone who is a fan of The Village TV series, starring John Simm, Maxine Peake and Juliet Stevenson can see where it was filmed from the kitchen door! And the shops in Hayfield still have some of the décor left over from the sets.
