Brewers Barn
About the home
Brewers Barn is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle. Secluded but not isolated, it is located 7 miles from the busy bookshop town of Hay on Wye in the Welsh hills. The barn was converted from a stable granary in 2004, and has a high standard of comfort without compromising the origional charm. It has 2 bedrooms and a lovely open plan living area. Brewers Barn is positioned on our working sheep and cattle farm and is an ideal base for walkers. Farm tours can be arranged; we love what we do and would be happy to show you the life of a Welsh hill farmer. We will take your round the stock in the Land Rover, and come and see the new arrivals of lambs and calves in the spring and summer months. The barn is ideal for both a family or two couples as there is a double bedroom with ensuite, and the twin room has new beds that can be zipped together to create a seamless super-king sized bed. ONLY LISTED SINCE APRIL 12th 2012.

Enquire nowThe Powys / Brecon Beacons / Powys region
Look no further if you are in search of green hills and mountains, fresh air and relaxation. A holiday in the Trowley Farmhouse will introduce you to a beautiful part of Wales, a refreshing region in which you can savour the atmosphere of traditional market towns, go walking along ancient pathways such as Offas Dyke, enjoy the pleasures of touring peaceful roads, and at the end of the day return to the comfort of a cosy home from home.
The surroundings in the central heartlands of Wales are a revelation. The scenery here is something special - rolling countryside all the way from the wide, open spaces of the Brecon Beacons National Park in the south to the wild beauty of the Berwyn Mountains in the north. From your front door you can walk up through Trowley farmland onto the open heather and fern covered common, where you can look over to Pen y Fan and the Black Mountains, and there are several churches that you can walk to.
There is so much to see in the area, whether you are a books buff (Hay on Wye bookshops are a must), an adrenaline junkie (try gorge walking or even white water rafting) or need a good relax (treat yourself to high tea at Llangoed Hall) then we can find it for you. We aim to make your holiday special!
The Hay-On-Wye / Paincastle area
Painscastle has the remains of a Norman Castle, and the local pub The Roasted Ox Inn is only 1.5 miles away. The food is excellent with a great sunday roast and a good atmosphere. There is a community tennis court in Rhosgoch (3 miles), also a licensed golf course also serving bar meals and a home cooked sunday carvery. There are local riding school that will take you out on the hills just above the Trowley.
Hay-on-Wye, approx. 6 miles, is home to the largest selection of second-hand book shops in the world. It is an old traditional market town with small streets and many antique shops. Come and stay with us for the Hay literary festival held in May, or visit the stunningly situated market town Brecon to join in with its Jazz festival in August, and then in Builth Wells only 20 minutes away there is the Royal Welsh Show in July.
There are many activities one can do nearby: Black Mountain activities offers rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, high level ropes course (similar to go ape) raft building, clay shooting, archery, mountain biking, gorge walking, white water rafting, white water kayaking, team building, conferences, pony trekking, caving etc.

We had a wonderful stay at Brewers Barn. Kathryn was incredibly friendly and organised with our booking, and the location of the barn is beautiful. It has been converted lovingly and is a stunning place to stay The lounge, with its open fire and huge views looking out over the black mountains, was a great place to spend a lazy afternoon. We felt very well looked after, including the kind provision of a welcome cake and fire, and can't wait to visit again. |

I spent a wonderful, peaceful week at Brewers Barn in October. The owners were extremely welcoming and as local farm owners, were very knowledgable about the area. Hay-on -wye was only 15 minutes... more |

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Brewers Barn. Owners are very friendly and had kindly arranged a Christmas tree and some treats for our stay. The location is quite remote which of course has it's advantages and disadvantages - we definitely enjoyed how quiet and peaceful it was. It's about a 20-25 minute drive to the nearest biggish town with a supermarket (Hay-on-Wye) but a pleasant drive nonetheless. The location is convenient to a number of destinations around that area though. The house had everything we needed generally and is quite well furnished. The sunken lounge area has a fireplace which makes it very cosy. Downstairs the two bedrooms are sizeable and also very comfortable. I would definitely recommend Brewers Barn for an escape to the countryside. |
