The Yorkshire region

The North York Moors National Park is one of the most spectacular areas in the UK, with rolling farmland, craggy cliffs, peaceful woodland, babbling brooks and meandering rivers, hidden hamlets and villages clinging to steep slopes just out of reach of the waves. High moorland tracks give stunning views over all this to the sea. The region is the must stay choice of the outdoor enthusiast, days can be spent walking, riding (cycle / horse), climbing, kayaking, fishing, golfing, swimming, surfing (the coastline here has some of the most challenging waves of anywhere in the country), just to mention a few of the activities available. For quieter days visit the many historic Abbeys in the region, travel on the Steam Train along the North York Moors Railway, visit the areas filmed for Harry Potter & Heart Beat, or visit the historical cities of York and Durham or witness a "blast" at the Cleveland Iron Stone Mine and Museum. Throughout the year there are many weekend festivals in the region Whitby hosts the world famous Whitby Goth Weekend in late October, along with the Bram Stoker Festival, a 60's music weekend, Music Port and of course the Whitby Regatta where local rowing teams battle it out to be crowned champions of the waves.

Albany Cottage is situated on the Whitby Abbey road between Whitby and the historic smuggling village of Robin Hood's Bay, and is ideally situated for the nightlife and many good restraunts of Whitby (5 minutes by car). Also within easy walking distance and 5 minutes by car are a supermarket, bakery and village pub which is locally owned and serves excellent food. Footpaths through the farm lead to the old disused Whitby to Scarborough railway line which is part of the Sustrans Cycle track and the Cleveland Way along the high cliff tops to "Bay" or Whitby. Cycle hire is also available within 10 minutes walk and if you choose to briing your own cycle we have secure storage. We can also advise of how to access some little known beaches where you will probably only encounter locals. There is a wealth of locally produced and fished food from the many excellent outlets making the ideal cullinary experience for keen "foodies". The farm is home to a wide variety of mammals and birds which can regularly be seen without even leaving the cottage.

"Excellent family vacation accomodation"

Marvellous location for Whitby on the Scarborough side. Open plan with a useful large internal porch for beach items. Light and airy living space with windows on three sides. Décor is warm and welcoming with generous family sized bathroom. Owners friendly and on site. Parking very good.
