The Northern England / Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales region

From heather-clad moors and bold limestone scars, to lively market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer? Surely, nowhere as much as in the Yorkshire Dales? Both a National Park and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the region’s stunning scenery includes rolling hay meadows, striking limestone formations, grand heather-laden moors and picture-postcard perfect villages.
A paradise for walkers, the Yorkshire Dales attract enthusiasts from far and wide as the long distance Pennine Way and Coast-to-Coast routes pass through the area. Cycling through the Dales is also popular – keen cyclists will enjoy the varied scenery and occasional ‘hilly’ sections of the 130 miles of Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, as it winds its way through Swaledale, Wensleydale and Coverdale. All of this, as well as exploring the imposing rock formations, echoing caves and potholes, will satisfy the most adventurous spirit, whilst Semer Water, the largest natural lake in Yorkshire, will keep any water-sport enthusiast happy.
If you’re looking for more relaxing pursuits, there’s much more to see than magnificent scenery. Stone-built villages nestling in valley bottoms, picturesque towns with vibrant craft centres and markets, imposing castles, stunning gardens and fine architecture are all part of the Dales’ appeal. Grassington, Wharfedale’s main town, boasts beautiful cobbled streets and quaint shops that take the visitor on a journey back in time, whilst the lively town of Hawes is home to the award winning Dales Countryside Museum, a fascinating range of shops and craft galleries and a sample or two of the famous ‘Wensleydale’ cheese at the Creamery is a treat not to be missed!
The Haworth area
Home to the famous Bronte sisters, the small village of Haworth and its surrounding moorland inspired such novels as Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. Nowadays, this charming little village is home to a myriad of curiosity and antique shops, alleyways and cobbled streets helping to create a period atmosphere. Nearby, the authentic steam railway - Worth Valley Railway - is worth a visit and was used in the film 'The Railway Children'. This regular service stops at the old village of Oxenhope and makes a fantastic day out. In addition to the railway the area also hosts the Museum of Rail, Bronte Parsonage museum, East Riddlesden Hall, and the market town of Skipton – often called the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. The elegant town of Harrogate is also close by and visitors there can enjoy the highly acclaimed ‘Betty’s Tea Rooms’ – home of ‘Yorkshire Tea’.

,Haworth is a lovely village and the cottage is situated in a very handy location for accessing the Dales and other villages surrounding Haworth. The cottage was very cosy. The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Lovely welcoming touch of a bottle of wine and box of chocolates too. Making the whole stay feel like they actually cared.

,The location of the cottage was ideal as it was in close proximity to most of the places we wanted to visit. Good restaurants and pubs also close by. Enjoyed the walks in Malham and Ingleton Falls tremendously.
