Northern England region

Nearby attractions in the area include the Worth Valley Steam Railway, with connections to the filming of "The Railway Children", Cliffe Castle Museum, Skipton Castle, East Riddlesden Hall and Salts Mill in Saltaire houses the largest collection of work by the artist David Hockney and has some unique shops and a café. For the shopaholic, Skipton, known as Gateway to the Dales, holds an outdoor market four days of the week selling anything from pots and pans, locally sourced foods and fashion items. Or try Boundary Mill at Colne, as advertised on TV which is quite a unique store selling designer clothing, home wares, kitchen accessories, china and crystal and various gadgets. Hebden Bridge and the Leeds/Liverpool canal, where you can spot the brightly coloured barges sailing by is only six miles. The bustling city of Leeds is easily accessible by train or car as is Bradford, Keighley and Harrogate which makes Oxenhope a great base for exploring Yorkshire, The Dales and The Lakes.

Surrounded by beautiful moorland, the cottage sits amongst the Bronte Way and the Millennium Way making it an ideal retreat for walkers and cyclists. The bustling Bronte village of Haworth is approximately 2 miles and is easily accessible by car or train from the terminus of the Worth Village railway line in Oxenhope.

From the cottage door, wonderful footpath walks lead into the rolling hills and heather strewn moors which are often referred to as “Bronte Country” and it was this surrounding countryside where the Bronte sisters drew their inspiration for writing. The neighbouring village of Haworth is home of the Bronte Parsonage Museum which stands at the head of the cobbled High Street and was formerly their childhood home, housing a history of their life and works. For visitors, a selection of gift shops, tea rooms bars and restraunts line this famous cobbled street, taking you back in time with mementoes on offer to remind you of your trip!

"STONE COTTAGE - A Wonderful retreat in Bronte Country"

"Warm and cosy"

We enjoyed a week exploring the moors, dales, local towns and pubs!

The cottage is great value for couples looking for a comfortable base. The kitchen is compact but has everything that you need for a holiday stay. The bed is extremely comfortable, the bathroom is well equipped. We liked the mezzanine area to look out over the local fields.

Howarth is five minutes away, and we would recommend the Fleece for great beer and good pub food (portions too big for us). Buses run every hour if you want to leave the car at home. We caught the train in to Leeds from Keighley - £11 for 2 people! We also went to Bolton Abbey, Saltaire, Harrogate and Hebden Bridge. Played golf at Bingley St Ives - a nice course, and a warm welcome.

Good meal at the Dog and Pheasant (a five minute drive away) the waggon and horses was shut and on the market, the Bay Horse was a disappointment!
The local Co-op was good for basic provisions, and some great butchers and free grocers in the area.

Find a better curry house than the one in Howarth

"Comfortable and pleasant location for a cosy stay"

We spent one week in Stone Cottage over Christmas. The location was very suitable for us as we wanted to be in the vicinity of family and friends and also near Brontë Village and the beautiful surrounding countryside. We absolutely enjoyed siting by the fire in the evenings and slept amazingly well in the comfy double bed in the big bedroom upstairs. The rooms were clean and spacious. The bath room and kitchen we also found to our liking. Basically, the cottage offered all we could wish for. We also appreciated the Christmas decorations and the bottle of Champagne in the fridge which made us feel very welcome. In short, we had a warm, cosy stay and would certainly like to come back.

Thank your for the lovely comments Petra, we are glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again in the future. Kind regards Diane

"Cosy & clean cottage in a nicely secluded spot"

Was taken here as a surprise by my girlfriend for a birthday. After we finally got the fire going (a little unpractised living in the city) and tucked into some tea and the complimentary biscuits, we settled into full on cosiness, which the cottage perfectly accomodated. Clean, simply decorated, with the usual oak beams and low ceilings, good views from a little sofa reading area upstairs too which was a thoughtful idea. Cottage is set into a hill, a nice 2 minute walk up with views over the sprawling countryside. Owner also dropped an internet dongle off for my girlfriend who needed to email some work off, nice of them to go out their way. Would recommend using the big Asda at Keighley to stock up on food if you don't have a car and get a cab from there. The pub on the hill about a half hour walk, The Dog and Gun, does great game pie. It was just starting to get dark as we did with fog coming over the hills, so very atmospheric. Plan to go back again some time this year. That's as good a review as you need really. Great relaxing place.

"A peaceful retreat from the business of life"

This was a lovely cottage in a lovely area, rented from a lovely host.

The cottage is a fantastic retreat from the business of life... comfortable and cosy with a nice mix of new and old. It had everything you need for a restful stay.

A highlight for me was the mezzanine reading room - with fantastic views over the moor. We spent many hours just relaxing here in the quiet.

The cottage is set in a lovely area with many things to do and see. There are many good walks in the local area.. some just a stones throw away from the cottage. Also very close to Haworth and other visitor attractions.

Diane was very friendly and helpful.

I would definitely recommend this cottage to others... if we didn't live so far away I would return every weekend!
