Deloraineshiel is a secluded shepherd's cottage on a working sheep farm, located in the heart of the Scottish Borders. This is The Ettrick Shepherd country, famously portrayed in the works of James Hogg, in which Deloraineshiel is mentioned.

Deloraineshiel is the ideal place to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Scottish Borders and is a perfect location to see all that the Borders has to offer.

A traditional, local stone, white and black cottage located on the hillside, away from the road and neighbouring properties, Deloraineshiel has magnificent open views of the rugged, scenic landscape.

The cottage is close to Hawick, Selkirk, Peebles, Innerleithen, Melrose and Kelso, as well as other Borders towns. Edinburgh is a scenic 1 hour drive away. St. Mary's Loch and the Grey Mare's Tail are also a short drive away.

There is a large deck and BBQ area with outdoor seating and ample space to sit back and relax both inside and out. Wifi and Freesat are available. Linens, towels, electricity, fuel and a starter kit of essentials (milk, sugar, tea) are included in the price.

Access is via a track from the B711 which is accessible with care (4 wheel drive not essential). Be sure to close the gate behind you, so we don't lose any sheep! Parking for up to 4 cars is available.

Although remote, major supermarkets will deliver. Contact us for our postal code to arrange.

You will be welcomed by an English/Lowland Scots speaking local who will be on hand to ensure your stay is comfortable and memorable.

The Scottish Borders region

The Scottish Borders are the ideal location to enjoy beautiful scenic views, rugged landscapes and a wealth of Scottish history, while being only a 1 hour drive away from the bustling Scottish captial city, Edinburgh.

Hawick

Enjoy the best of all Scotland has to offer, in the often over looked area of natural beauty. We can arrange shooting on the estate or fishing on the rivers and lochs. Many golf courses are within a short drive, extensive walking and cycling routes lead from the house or are close by. We can suggest itineraries for you, perhaps a drive to Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway for shopping, stopping off at the Grey Mare's Tail on the way. A wander around the gardens and house at Bowhill. A cycle to Innerleithen for the world famous mountain biking trails. So many options, but if you just want to relax, just hang out at the house and enjoy the view and bird life.

Thanks for your feeback, we are glad you enjoyed the fresh air and views! Unfortunately British Telecom have not been very helpful and they won't invest in upgrading our internet line. We are currently investigating satellite broadband internet as an alternative and will let you know the result of that. We know that even those of us who want to get away from it all still expect reliable, always on wifi. Also, we got a new frying pan for your sausages next time you visit! :)

Wow to you too! We worked so hard to make the cottage the type of place we would like to stay, make it interesting and yet honour it's history as a shepherd's cottage. It's great to know you enjoyed your stay and appreciate our work.
