Hawes is a charming dales market town with cobbled streets and is well served with tearooms, gift shops, antique shops and local convenience stores. A large open air market lines the streets on a Tuesday offering a wide range of local produce and fancy goods. There are numerous country pubs and restaurants in the town making it the ideal base for a holiday in Wensleydale. Hawes is home to the Wensleydale Creamery, famed for its connections with Wallace and Gromit and from where you may taste a variety of local cheeses. The Ropemakers is well worth a visit and from here you can watch tradesmen go about their daily work, producing a wonderful selection of colourful ropes for lots of uses. For those interested in history, The Dales Countryside Museum is worth a visit, all in all ensuring something for everyone.
