Northern England region
The Yorkshire coastal towns of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington have been attracting visitors for hundreds of years who come to enjoy the miles of clean sandy beaches, pretty fishing ports and to walk along magnificent cliff top paths. The picturesque fishing port of Whitby is noted for its narrow streets and cliff top abbey which dominates the skyline and is well known as the place where Bram Stoker was inspired to write his famous novel ‘Dracular'. Further south lies Scarborough which offers two horseshoe bays both with stretches of golden sands and plenty of amusements and activities; which are ideal for the perfect family holiday. All along the coast visitors will be able to find a contrast of family friendly resorts and quieter little fishing ports which, all in all, offers something for everyone.
Sedbusk is a quaint, sleepy dales hamlet, conveniently situated just a mile and a half from Hawes, a traditional market town providing an array of tearooms, gift shops and is certainly a great place to stock up on good local produce. On a Tuesday the market stalls line the streets, and farmers conduct their business at the livestock market. Hawes is the home of Wensleydale cheese with its cheese factory that was built in 1897. The town is surrounded by open dales countryside and is a haven for walkers and cyclists alike. You may enjoy a relaxing train journey on the Wensleydale railway. Aysgarth falls are just a short drive away, and the historians amongst you may wish to visit to Bolton Castle where Mary Queen of Scots was held for six months.
