The South East England / Essex region

North Essex has many things to offer for all ages, Harwich is the gateway to Europe with ferries and cruise ships daily makes a great place to start or finish a holiday. The region boasts many attractions with the Blue flag Dovercourt beach just footsteps away and the famous foot ferry that links you to Shotley, Felixstowe and Harwich harbour where the River Stour meets the River Orwell and seaward to the North Sea. Close to Constable country of Dedham which is always worth a day out. There is always Colchester the oldest recorded town in England with its historical garrisons, Castles and churches with its now cosmopolitan style of shopping, dining and nightlife influenced by its international university.
There is plenty of Victorian seaside towns to explore like Clacton, Frinton, Walton on the Naze, not forgetting Holland on sea, Jaywick sands, St Osyths that all sit on the coast. Further afield just across the river is the vibrant Ipswich that sits on the Essex - Suffolk border with its wealth of attractions and also full of history. Then you could jump on the train to London to places like the Tate gallery and see how he saw north Essex in his time. North Essex is definitely the forgotten treasury of England a place that time has nearly forgot but you will not forget the time you spend there.
The Harwich / Dovercourt area
Harwich and Dovercourt has always been a holiday destination, probably more since Victorian times and especially in the fifties and sixties with the original Hi de HI Warners holiday camp. There is always something to see or do, from visiting one of the historic sites of Harwich like The Redoubt Fort, Halfpenny Pier, and Maritime museum Lifeboat museum all open 10am - 5pm daily from May to the end of August in the good weather there are tour guides from the tourist centre on the Halfpenny Pier. From July 1st to 10th the "Harwich Trafalgar Festival of the Arts" at various venues, not to be missed is the Sea Festival on the 31st July and not forgetting the Blue Flag beaches of Dovercourt with its sandy beaches and great sea views.

Oh what a lovely cosy cottage so homely with everything you could want for a relaxing stay including dishwasher washing machine tumble dryer cooker microwave (if you want to cook )but really no need as plenty of great places to eat The TowerTh Hotel is lovely for bar or restaurant meals but if you need to cook plenty of shops near by. The children loved the playroom attic with its assortment of games and toys and also the beach which is so close and safe . We went on the pier and to the old fort and had a lovely day at Walton on the Naze a bit more seasidey for children. The weater was good to us but even if had not would have just enjoyed this lovely cottage and its views Response: Glad you had a good holiday and thank you for the feedback. |

As expats that have lived in Australia for over 40 years, we found the cottage wonderful! Home from home with everything that one would possibly need is in the cottage.
