The Kent region

Kent is the garden of England with lots on offer to see and do around the countryside.

Harty is now the scene of extensive farming, a quiet backwater beloved by ornithologists and naturalists, a place of peace and solitude where rare birds nest and wild flowers abound in this remote corner of Sheppey. No trip to Harty is complete without a visit to the beautiful early Norman Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, often described as Kent’s remotest place of worship. Still lit by oil-lamps and candles, it contains treasures including well known 14th century Flemish chest with a design of two knights in a friendly jousting contest. Stolen from the church in 1987 and returned within days by reason of it being so well documented. The Church is open daily from dawn to dusk.

Harty Ferry

Harty is really a separate island, and until comparatively recently, the neighbourhood was known as the "Isles of Sheppey", which included the main island and the smaller ones of Elmley and Harty. The place was known as Hertei in 1086; Heartege in 1100; Herteye in 1242 and Harty by 1610.

Five minutes away is The Ferry House Inn, a 16th Century inn boasting the best waterside views for miles around. Here you can eat, drink and be merry, or why not book up some clay pigeon shooting?

The beach at Shellness / Leysdown is approximately 15 mintues drive away, or 1-2 hours walk across footpaths that offer spectacular views of the countryside and estruary.

"Very spacious cottage"

This cottage is very big. The kitchen and dining area are huge. There is plenty of room to seat 6 people. The downstairs toilet was great for our elderly parents, although the stairs are not steep. Th… More

"Fantastic cottage."

We stayed at Fleet Lodge for a few days with two young children and friends for a wedding at the nearby Ferry House Inn.
The Fleet lodge was a fantastic cottage with loads of space inside for the children. Everything we needed was there it was fantastic.

The other cottages at Mocketts Farm were also full of other guests for the wedding so it was great to be able to sit out in the open areas and move between cottages chatting to friends and family. It is a fantastic setup if you have a large group as we did.

I would say that if you have young children who like running around outside and exploring (as our do), the gardens are communal and open to the car park and cottages close to each other, but this was fine for us.
It is a short walk to the Harty Ferry pub but for everything else it is a bit of a drive - so don't forget to stock up before you get there.

I would thoroughly recommend both the cottages and the pub - especially if you are looking for a wedding venue!

"Amazing Stay!"

We travelled in a large group of 14 for a family get together and hired a couple of the properties at this complex.

From start to finish the stay was amazing!

From the little things like bread, milk and cake being available as we arrived, to emails counting down to our arrival.... when we did arrive everything was perfect!

The location is amazing and the fact your less than a 10 minute walk from the local country pub is great. We even saw a hare on our way to the pub!

There really is something for everyone!

All I can say is thank you so much Mocketts Farm (especially Victoria) for making our stay perfect.
