A contrasting National Trust Property is Brimham Rocks where curious rock formations are scattered over some 50 acres on Brimham Moor and provide a great variety of weird and wonderful shapes. Many of the gritty monstrosities suggest all manner of things, including elephants, hippos, bears and mushrooms. Some are said to have associations with the druids and Mother Shipton herself.
At Beningbrough Hall And Gardens you can enjoy the slower place of life by the lily pond. Wander down the pear arch avenue to savour the colours and aromas of the walled garden. We found this property in a last minute search for a week's holiday and were lucky to book it at short notice. The owners are very friendly and made booking the property very easy over the internet. The initial attraction was the location (we don't currently have a car, so it's location so near to a rail station was ideal) and the great price. The property itself is a small and extremely well presented bungalow, purpose built for couples looking for a short break. It is ideally situated, just a stones throw away from Knaresborough castle which offers fantastic views over the river and beyond. It is well stocked with utensils, linen and towels, a good TV for rainy evenings, and an excellent heating system for cold nights! It has a high finish with modern furnishings and nice touches. The bathroom is the highlight, with a large bath and separate shower. We received a welcome pack upon arriving, with milk, coffee, tea and a bottle of wine as well as various leaflets and information about the area. Knaresborough is a great town with loads to do, especially at the picturesque river side (ten minutes walk from the bungalow) where you can hire a rowing boat, visit Mother Shiptons Cave, visit cafes etc etc. Plenty of history, a friendly atmosphere and some excellent pubs and restaurants make Knaresborough a great and inexpensive holiday location for short breaks - with excellent transport links to York, Ripon and Harrogate. We had a great time and would highly recommend this holiday property to anyone. |
