The Northern England / Yorkshire / Yorkshire region

Yorkshire quite simply have everything from cities to coast and countryside. It is famed for its acres of green fields and drystone walls, a place where everyone can find peace, quiet and enjoyment. The Yorkshire Dales with its heather-covered moorland feeding tumbling streams that rush down valleys lined with flower-strewn pastures.

Cities in Yorkshire deliver all the modern fun you'd expect, from cafe culture to gigs and clubs, brasseries to ballet or gardens to galleries.Nestling beneath the hills lies the delightful town of York, where you can lose yourself in the old Medieval Streets.

Harrogate is easily accessible by road or rail with trains from Knaresborough Station and buses every ten minutes.
On the same line the vibrant city of Leeds has its historic Victoria Quarter which boasts stores like Harvey Nichols.

Harrogate / Knaresborough area

Knaresborough is home to Mother Shipton's Cave, the famous Petrifying Well, a unique geological phenomenon. It is recorded that people believed it to have miraculous healing properties as early as 1538! At Knaresborough Castle visit The King's Tower, the dungeons and the Courthouse Museum.

For all you need to know about our Town see Knaresborough online at www.knaresborough.co.uk

How Stean Gorge is a spectacular limestone gorge with narrow paths along a ravine filled with tumbling white water.
Ripley Castle and Gardens is a really interesting and entertaining day out rounded off with a luxury ice cream from the World Famous Ripley Ice Cream Shop! Visit the National Trust's Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire's first World Heritage Site. This huge estate of beauty, contrasts and surprises includes the largest abbey ruins in the country and one of England’s most spectacular Georgian water gardens.

A contrasting National Trust Property is Brimham Rocks where curious rock formations are scattered over some 50 acres on Brimham Moor and provide a great variety of weird and wonderful shapes. Many of the gritty monstrosities suggest all manner of things, including elephants, hippos, bears and mushrooms. Some are said to have associations with the druids and Mother Shipton herself.

At Beningbrough Hall And Gardens you can enjoy the slower place of life by the lily pond. Wander down the pear arch avenue to savour the colours and aromas of the walled garden. Pop into the potting shed, visit the Victorian laundry, or discover three floors of portraits from the National Portrait Gallery in the splendid interiors of this Georgian country home.

The spa Town of Harrogate is just 4 miles away, easily accessed from Knaresborough Railway Station. Harrogate is known as 'England's Floral Town' with many floral displays and open spaces. The town has a fascinating spa heritage and buildings of note include the Royal Pump Room and Turkish Baths.
