Northern England region

Review of Dallowgill on google, it's a beautiful area which lies 3 miles from Kirkby Malzeard and within easy access of Masham,Ripon,Harrogate and Pateley Bridge.

If , like me, you had never heard of the area before then I strongly recommend a visit. I would have skirted past the area if not for a recommendation from someone in the know. The small hamlet of Dallow (little more than an old hall and some cottages) lies on the edge of the moorland which stretches south west unbroken to Pateley Bridge with the small Dallow Gill flowing past 100 yards away. The woodland that cloaks the steep sides of the stream is a delight; Scots Pine lives here next to willow, larch and even some ancient oaks with green paths showing the trees off to great effect. The views across the Vale of York stretch to Roseberry Topping and the escarpment of the Yorkshire Moors whilst nearer to home is Greygarth Monument (erected by locals to celebrate Queen Victorias Diamond Jubilee in 1897) at the top of which can be reached by a ladder through its middle, Dallow Hall and the wonderful church next to the outdoor centre. But this is a land the time has thankfully passed by, enjoy it whilst you can

Recommend: There are 22 mosaics dotted over the mosaic trail which can be searched out and ticked off. They were made by locals in 1997 and are now attached to startegically placed boulders

We are 300m from the Mosaic Walk.

"Perfect Dales retreat"

As a group of twelve which included adults and children, we had a brilliant time. The location was great, offering fabulous walks, the sheep and cows were a great distraction for the children and the house itself was brilliant. It had everything we possibly needed and more.

"Beautiful house with stunning views in a very peaceful location"

We spent the weekend with family aged from 20 to 81. The barn was equipped and furnished to high standard. The kitchen was a magnet for everyone to gather at all times of day. The living space was great as we could all be together without feeling overcrowded and also were able to find a quiet place if we wanted. We made full use of the games room and the outside space. The bedrooms were all good sizes especially the master. We put Grandma and Grandad in this room and they couldnt get over the size and how comfortable it was. For such a large house it was very warm and comfortable. We even managed to drag ourselves away for a couple of walks with the dogs. It was worth the windy bumpy road to get there and we would all definitely recommend it. Fantastic property. Loved our stay.

Lovely house with space for 10 to spread out. Disappointingly little niggles made the holiday a bit frustrating, for example the aga (only oven) didn't work, bits if the dishwasher were broken and the advertised bar b q was unusable.
Make sure you contact the owner well in advance of your stay. Very annoying to have to chase the details of your holiday. A day before holiday starts is ridiculously late to find out how to get in to the house you paid for months before.

Very rare that a aga does not work, we called out the aga engineer who found it had been switched off by mistake by the guests, we have at his suggestion made sure the mistake can't happen again by moving the oil off switch. The dishwasher works fine but as no one has told us of any problem then we did not know. The barbecue is gas and we suggested you can also use throw away packs under the large lid, we will provide a second barbecue so you can bring your own coals if that is prefered. We have had a problem with email but are always availiable by phone for anything. We are very sorry these niggles spoiled your holiday at our beautiful barn.

"Huge, comfortable property with beautiful views."

This is an amazing property with six great bedrooms (several en suite), a giant kitchen and two comfy living rooms - so big you can get lost. Despite it's size, it is very warm and comfortable with a lovely wood-burning stove in the main sitting room. The location and views are stunning and you can set off on some great walks from the doorstep. The games table for pool, air hockey and ping pong was an unexpected bonus.

We were worried about the aga before we arrived but found cooking on it to be very straightforward and simple. There are two electric rings as well, which helped.

We hired the barn for New Year and were given a very warm welcome by the friendly owners. Overall it's a fantastic place for a big family gathering or big group of friends.
