The Yorkshire region
Nidderdale, part of the Yorkshire Dales, and the valley of the River Nidd carved out of the hills by glaciers in the Ice Age. The main town in the north is Pateley Bridge and in the south the market town of Knaresborough. Harrogate, the Spa town with its Royal Baths, is in the middle.
Agriculture and tourism are big employers however many retire to the lovely town of Harrogate and sample the delights of the many cafes and restaraunts, especially the famous Betty's Café. Harrogate is a conference centre with excellent shops and many hotels have grown up to cater for the short and long term visitor.
Try the mixture of town and country, local food and drink, pub and restaurant, relaxing or exercising in the heart of Yorkshire and have a memorable holiday.
Dacre is situated on a bend in the Nidd valley with views up to the north past Pateley Bridge and south towards Ripley. Situated on the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales Nidderdale it is the quietest and most gentle of the major Dales. From Middlesmoor in the north down to Pateley (the capital of upper Nidderdale) and on to Ripley and Knaresborough in the south until the Nidd joins the Ouse at Nun Monkton it is a feast on the eyes with the changing scenery.
Dacre is on the edge of the Nidderdale Way, a path taking the visitor around the banks of the Nidd plus countless other rights of way criss crossing the area.
Fishing tickets are available at the local reservoirs or for the Nidd. Golf courses of varying degrees of difficulty are available in the main towns. Road cycling is growing in popularity and many participants are in action at weekends.
Pateley Bridge (7km) has a swimming pool and fitness centre together with a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, serving excellent food and drink. Great local food can be obtained in all the eateries throughout the Dale.

"lovely peaceful cottage with great views"
Lovely cottage, well equipped and clean. Convenient for visiting interesting places eg.. Brimham rocks and Fountains Abbey.
Thank you for the review. So glad you enjoyed it. You saw the dale at its best due to a week of wonderful weather.

We really enjoyed our stay in the lovely cottage. All possible luxury available and very kind hosts that made our stay most pleasant. The peace and quiet countryside was exactly what we hoped for and yet all the Yorkshire goodies are easy to get to from here Never drove more than 30 minutes one way). One thing to remember though: no internet and limited cellphone reach available. Good thing in our case!
Many thanks for your kind review - we are so glad you enjoyed your stay.

"Lovely Stay at New Close Cottage"
Cottage was very well presented and in a lovely rural area. A convenient location to the Dales and also to Harrogate. We recommend the walk at Malham Cove, which is a reasonable distance. Bolton Abbey is also a lovely location to take a picnic in nicer weather. York and Harrogate are also not too far and are nice days out. We enjoyed the Bronte Museum at Haworth which again is not too far to drive. Overall, a very enjoyable week away. The owners live next door to the cottage and were very welcoming and friendly. I would definitely stay again.
So pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and we would be delighted to welcome you back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 10 days in New Close Cottage, a little gem surrounded by fields and farms with lovely villages and places of interest within easy reach. The delightful cottage is very well equipped, warm and comfortable, Ann has certainly given much thought to detail it certainly is home from home. We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked again for 2014. The Smiths were extremely helpful and certainly made our stay a delight.
Glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you both in May 2014.

"Holiday at New Close Cottage"
Nestling in the quiet rolling hills of Nidderdale those seeking a peaceful retreat to romantic Yorkshire will find this spot idyllic. With Harrogate,Grassington,Ilkley and Skipton close by then monuments like Fountains Abbey, Bolton Abbey and Ripley Castle there is plenty to do.
The Cottage is Constructed from a converted barn and is presented over two floors and has
much period charm. Equipped to high standard it is kept in immaculate condition ensuring a trouble free stay. Even the cows are full of Yorkshire's easy welcome and natural curiosity. We have visited on a number of occasions and are certain to return.
Many thanks and look forward to seeing you again.

The cottage is situated in a rural location which may be thought of by some as isolated, but it is next door to the farm. I think you would definitely need a car to get to all the local beauty spots, restaurant/pubs. etc. Walks are very close down lanes, farm tracks and across moorland. The cottage is well resourced in the kitchen which is on the ground floor. Lobby with coat stand and a toilet with sink/ boiler. Thoughtfully there is a welcome cup of milk in the fridge. Flowers in the upstairs lounge with wonderful views across the valley. The upstairs door (at the top of the outside stairs allows the freshest of air each morning ! and overlooks the pastureland which is directly outside. Parking is plentiful and next to the cottage. The double bedroom (with side tables and table lamps) , contains spacious wardrobe and large cupboard which is filled with clean bedding and towels. Shower, toilet and sink also on this first floor. The cottage is very clean and well maintained. The friendly owners are very knowledgeable about the local places to visit, also books and guides are kept in the lounge.
Thank you. We always enjoy seeing you both. Can we point out that the holiday cottage is adjacent to the owner's house as New Close is no longer a working farm.

"Welcoming hosts, comfortable, well equipped cottage."
This was our third stay in Anne's lovely cottage. It is equipped with everything one could want, is warm and comfortable and has lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Very quiet and peaceful but easily accessible.
Many thanks Val. So glad you enjoyed your last stay. By now you are getting to know those places that do not always get into the guide books in this beautiful valley of Nidderdale.
