Notes on accommodation
The cottage is located in the lovely quiet hamlet of Rhyd, nestling in a small valley with fields and forest in front of the cottage, looking down towards the estuary at Porthmadog, and with the backdrop of the dramatic peaks of the Snowdonia mountains (Cnicht and the Moelwyns are immediately behind the cottage). It is in a great location - secluded and away from the main tourist hotspots of Snowdonia, but within easy reach of all the mountain and coastal attractions. The cottage is heated by night storage heaters downstairs (supplemented by an open fire in the lounge), with wall heaters in the bedrooms and bathroom. We have a no-smoking policy for this cottage.
One pet dog is allowed, by prior arrangement.
A comprehensive guest information guide is available in the cottage, together with leaflets for all major local attractions.
Not suitable for disabled people or very young children.
A secluded back garden with shrubs and lawns backs onto fields with clear views of the Moelwyn mountains. The garden is especially nice in the spring, when it is a mass of colour from the azaleas and daffodils. Garden bench/seats. Barbecue. There is ample car parking in a layby in the lane, about 40 yards from the front door of the cottage.
Beaches at Shell Island and on the Llyn Peninsula are within easy reach of the cottage (30-45 minutes drive).
Golf courses available at Porthmadog (about 5 miles) as well as at Caernarfon and at Criccieth, Pwllheli and Nefyn on the Llyn Peninsula.
A car is really needed to explore Snowdonia from the cottage. It is about one and half hours drive from Shrewsbury, via the A5, A494 to Bala, then the A4212 to Trawsfynydd. About 45 minutes from the A55 at Bangor.
Porthmadog - 5 miles
Penrhyndeudraeth - 3 miles
Harlech - 10 miles
Caernarvon - 25 miles
Beddgelert - 7 miles
A good pub and village shop is located in Garreg, 5 minutes drive from the cottage. Further shops/pubs/restaurants are available in Penrhyndeudraeth (3 miles) or Porthmadog (5 miles). Walks are available from the front door of the cottage onto lovely forest and lakeside tracks, or up into the Moelwyn mountains. The main tourist centres within the Snowdonia National Park (Beddgelert, Capel Curig, Betws-y-coed) are all within half an hours drive. The various paths up Snowdon are all in easy reach, as are all the other wonderful attractions of North Wales. Whether you are into walking, climbing, water sports, castles, beaches, birdwatching or steam railways, you will be kept entertained !
