About the home

A lovely villa, ideal for couples and families, in an excellent location at the heart of the Golf des Pins which is renowned as one of the most beautiful in Europe (http://www.opengolfclub.com/hardelot). The villa, surrounded by pine trees, is away from the traffic (in a cul de sac) which makes it ideal for young children yet only 25 mins walk ( 2 mins by car) from the beach, restaurants, cafes and shops. Hardelot-Plage has been granted the national "KID Station" scheme - a "child-friendly" resort. A KID Station is a holiday resort that provides particularly good facilities for children, and has taken care to ensure their safety.

The Northern France / Nord-Pas-de-Calais region

Hardelot is situated in the Forest of Hardelot on the coast between Boulogne-sur-Mer and Le Touquet-Paris Plage. The region is renowned for its fishing industry (Boulogne-sur-mer and Etaples) so many menus feature a wonderful selection of seafood. Fresh fish can be bought direct from the fishermen at the quayside in Etaples. Many varieties of cheeses are produced in the region the most famous of which is the Vieux Boulogne. Desvres near Boulogne is famous for its ceramics as is Arras too. St. Omer is renowned for its brewery. Royal Dentelle Lace is a speciality of Calais and can be bought at the retail outlet in Calais direct from the factory. There are many charming villages inland in the Valley of the Canche and Valley of Authie set amongst rolling hills.

The Hardelot Plage area

Hardelot is recognised as a "KID Station" - a "child-friendly" resort. A KID Station is a holiday resort that provides particularly good facilities for children, and has taken care to ensure their safety. It is a national scheme, with "KID certified" resorts all over France (for more details on KID station see http://www.theotherside.co.uk/tm-heritage/background/kid.htm). Hardelot is set in perfect surroundings, in the heart of the Regional Nature Park. The resort lies in acres of sand dunes and pine woods, and is bordered by kilometres of fine sandy beaches. Hardelot has all the charm of secluded seaside villas surrounded by pine trees and golf courses, while the shops and restaurants in the town centre are in season all year round. The Pine forests at le Touquet and Hardelot were initially planted in the 19th century by an Englishman. Both international championship golf courses are patronised by English people daily have very good restaurants where one can eat whether playing or not. Hardelot Plage itself has many very good restaurants to enjoy French food as well as several shops. Many activities are available in the resort such as are Horse Riding (Hardelot Equistrian Centre with an international calendar of show-jumping events), Sand Yachting (17 kms of sandy beach), Tennis, Kayaks, Sailing, Tandem Cycle Hire, Children's Beach Clubs (July/August), Petanque, Forest Walks. “Perfect Holiday letting” Despite having looked at the information on this website and having looked at the immediate area on Google Street View, we were nevertheless still taken aback by just how perfect the Villa and the village of Hardelot Plage were. The villa was the best equipped that we have ever stayed in and despite our children now being 6 and 11, we appreciated the facilities in the villa for much younger children, such as a stair gate. We visited in February and had beautiful, if rather crisp weather(despite which the children paddled on the beach!) However, the premises had a very effective heating system and it was jolly cosy. Hardelot Plage was beautiful and very very quiet. It was great for going out for a run on the deserted footpaths. Many of the houses were apparently closed for the Winter. Whilst we did use the small shops and particularly the supermarket in the village centre, we found a Carrefour just off the D940 on the D113, which was much cheaper and had more variety. The Hardelot Chateau and lake was also well worth a visit. When we visited we were surprised to find a free exhibition of photographs celebrating Her Majesty the Queen's 60 years on the throne!

“Just as described” Very nice house and great location for golf, beach or touring. Everything you would need and more for a comfortable stay. The owner sent comprehensive instruction and information.

“"Best holiday ever!"” My daughter, her 2 children and I spent a gloriously sunny week at the villa. It is well equipped, comfortable and has the luxury of an enclosed garden, so the three year old could run in and out safely. The ten year old summed up our holiday in the title. The villa fulfilled all our expectations, being set in tranquil surroundings with easy access to a twelve mile safe, sandy beach and a play park close to the villa. Hardelot is delightful; our most memorable meal was in "Les Sables", where the food was excellent, the restaurant child friendly and the staff welcoming. We had one meal on the sea front, where my ten year old grandson impressed me by eating moules, after he had tried some of mine and liked them. I really cannot fault the villa, it's description on the Holiday Lettings site, or the area - and we were blessed with a week of sunshine. I certainly hope to return to try some of the walks I noted, bringing my dog next time.
