Lighthouse Keepers Cottage
About the home
Built in 1791 Happisburgh lighthouse is the only privately run working lighthouse in the country. The cottages were originally built to house the keepers and did so for the next 160 years.
These days they have found a new role as an iconic symbol of Norfolk and pictures of the lighthouse and cottages have featured in many magazines including Vogue, the drama Kingdom (with Stephen Fry) and a recent award winning short film and much, much more.
The cottage is far enough away from the village to give the peace and quiet to allow you to recharge your batteries. but also has plenty of good local pubs and restaurants nearby

Further details indoors:
After coming through the garden gate you enter the private garden with the original water pump. Following round to the back garden you will want to stop and take in the amazing views far out to sea before coming into the landscaped garden with its mature plants, large decked area and summer house.
The three bedrooms that will comfortably sleep 6 people (two double and two single beds) are all on the ground level. Also the modern designer bathroom with square marble basin sitting on a bespoke solid oak unit, double ended bath with electric shower over and glass screen.
Worn stone steps lead down to the basement kitchen diner which has the original copper, range (sadly not working) and flagstone flooring but is also fully fitted with modern appliances. The low beams are a feature that may prove interesting for a tall cook! (head height is 5 ft 11” – 181 cm) but we have had people over 6 ft stay who soon learnt to dodge the lowest bits.
Passing through the old coal store you climb the spiral steps and enter the lounge. Over 24 ft long and 12 ft wide it has a large corner suite at the sea end to settle into and watch TV or just relax and another comfy sofa at the land end for anyone wanting to chill out and read, listen to music or play on the games table.
We have a collection of books, DVDs and board games for when you return from exploring the beach and the local area or the evening to relax and cuddle up in front of the open coal fire.
Internet connection is through a USB connected Vodafone dongle and we make sure that there is £10 on there for your use.
Further details outdoors:
Car parking is inside the front boundary wall and large enough for two vehicles.
Front garden is laid to lawn and ideal for evening drinks whilst watching the amazing Norfolk sunsets. The rear garden is a shingled beach garden with large raised deck area for al fresco dining. There is also a summer house ideal for afternoon tea, watching the dramatic seas or whatever your passion may be.
Further details
Due to the age and lay out of the property the worn steps and spiral staircase although a feature make it impossible to use stair gates. We rely on you to gauge if any children in your party will be able to cope.

Fantastic cottage, with spectacular views. Very warm & cosy - very unimpressed with the local pub(the hill-house)would not go there again..a short drive to the lighthouse pub in walcott was much nicer.. Would love to stay here again & would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing, peaceful break. |
