The Hammamet/Cap Bon Peninsula region
Sources: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hammamet is a town in Tunisia. Due to its beaches it is a popular destination for swimming and water sports. It was the first tourist destination in Tunisia. It is located in the south east of the northern peninsula of Cap Bon in the Governorate of Nabeul, on the northern edge of the Gulf of Hammamet. The reported number of inhabitants varies from 20,000 to 70,000 and the population quadruples due to tourists in the summer. It is particularly known for jasmine, and this is how the tourist resort of Yasmine Hammamet got its name. All over Hammamet, souvenirs made of jasmine can be found. Around Hammamet, all kinds of immigrant towns/suburbs are being built as immigrants from the southern part of the country come to find work.
Just south of Hammamet is Tunisia's newest resort - Yasmine Hammamet. The palm-tree lined promenade is adjacent to one of the longest golden sandy beaches in Tunisia. This modern and luxurious resort is blessed with fine hotels, the majestic Medina Mediterranea, an international standard marina, and many shops, cafés and restaurants.
Family entertainment is to be found at Carthage Land Theme Park and Tunisia's first ice rink at The Blue Ice complex. At night the Cabaret Restaurant Sheherazade whisks you into an atmosphere worthy of the One Thousand and One Nights, 2000 sq metres of games are available at the Casino of The Médina and various nightclubs can be found in the resort.
Yasmine Hammamet - "Hammamet's jasmine" - can be enjoyed in first class hotels, at very reasonable prices, with all the attractions of the long established resort of Hammamet close byopular destination for tourists, it brings a lot of money to Tunisia. The 2005 World Scout Conference was held in Hammamet.
Golf: A short distance from Hammamet Yasmine on the main route to Tunis are two Golf Clubs of international standard. Golf Citrus has two 18-hole championship courses "La Foret" the forest and "Les Oliviers" the olive trees, both par 72. Guests of the Aziza, Aziza Residence and the Mediterranee can enjoy reduced green fees. Golf Yasmine is an 18-hole par 72 course of 6115 metres by architect Ronald Fream which has a 9 hole school course. Green fees in Tunisia are amongst the most reasonable in Europe and tee-off times and fees can be pre-booked and prepaid in the UK before you travel.
Where to go: Yasmine Hammamet is ideally placed for visiting the Cap Bon region, often described as the 'Garden of Tunisia'. Close by is the region's capital Nabeul, recognised as the leading town for Tunisian craftsmanship, where you'll find pottery (an activity which dates back to the Roman times), embroidery and the distillation of perfumes using orange blossom, jasmine and geranium. A colourful market is held every week on a Friday. You can take a full day excursion which visits all the important sites.
