The Northumberland region

Northumberland is England's most northern county, a magical place filled with ancient castles, golden sand beaches, rolling hills, rugged moorland and friendly little Northumberland towns and villages.

Near to Hadrian's Wall, once patrolled by soldiers from all corners of the Roman Empire, Hadrian's Wall is one of our best-known and loved attractions.

The best thing about the Roman wall is that, remarkably, stretches of it are still intact and you can get a real sense of what life must have been like for the Centurions and guards who once garrisoned Rome's northernmost frontiers.

"Excellent"

This is a wonderful cottage, well equipped and very clean and tidy. Central location for all the sites and activities on Hadrians wall. The neighbours are incredibly friendly and it's easy to feel like you're in a home from home here. I would recommend staying here without hesitation! A very peaceful location with fabulous archaeology, walking and views on the doorstep.

"Great comfortable stay"

We enjoyed a very comfortable week's stay within No. 2 Stonelea, Westwood Cottages whilst digging at Vindolanda. The cottage is tastefully furnished and has everything you need. We particularly enjoyed having a washing machine and a private garden (not overlooked) in which to relax and unwind in.

We will definitely be booking the accommodation again.
