Further details indoors

There is an open plan living room, kitchen and dining area with vaulted ceiling and views down to the lake. Sliding doors open onto a deck which is great for barbecues in the summertime (it had a massive 640 sq ft wraparound extension added in October 2012, sorry - no pictures yet!) and separate sliding doors lead to a sunroom. The living room has a fireplace, satellite television/ dvd, ipod speakers, a luxurious new leather L-shaped sofa (again, no pictures yet, pending!) and a wonderful view down to the lake. The kitchen is very well equipped with an island unit, quality microwave, convection oven, fridge, blender and plenty of crockery and utensils. The dining room seats 8 while 3 barstools provide further eating space at the island unit.

There are two bedrooms and a bathroom on the main floor as well as a washing machine and tumble drier. The master bedroom has double sliding doors and a balcony looking down to the lake while the other bedroom has a double bed with a single bunk over it. The bathroom has a bath with shower.

Downstairs there is a recreation room with another television, dvd player and a games machine. There is a small utility and double doors lead outside. Two further bedrooms and a bathroom (with shower) are also on this floor: one bedroom has a double bed and a single bed while the other bedroom has a double bunk with a single bunk above.

Further details outdoors

Outside there is a firepit - great for roasting marshmallows and stargazing- as well as a basketball net.

A path leads down to the lake where there are 2 waterfront areas. The dock is out from June until September and it leads out to deep water, suitable for diving. There is also a gradual entry area with rock steps leading down into the water - good for young children. The lake has been measured to be one of the cleanest in Ontario and it warms up in the summer for excellent swimming and boating. A canoe is available for use and further boats can be rented in Haliburton.

There is plenty of wildlife in the area. We usually see deer when driving up the road at dusk, while wild turkeys, beaver and heron have all been seen.

The lake is well stocked for fishing, with bass and lake trout.

The cottage is fully winterized and is accessible in the wintertime - please note that a four wheel drive or snow chains may be necessary.

Further details

Up to 2 well-behaved dogs may be permitted - please enquire.

The Ontario region

July and August are busy as everyone heads north for the lakes from the hot and humid city areas: Besides the swimming, canoeing, hiking and sunbathing at the cottage itself, places nearby provide waterskiing, golf, tennis, etc.

September is very quiet with children having returned to school- the days remain warm while the evenings are cooler.

At the end of September the leaves start changing colour and the autumn colours are glorious - generally until mid October.

In the winter cross country skiing, toboganning and ice-fishing are possible from the cottage, while dog-sledding and downhill skiing are a 30-45 minute drive away.

The cottage is a 20 minute drive from the lovely village of Haliburton, an old logging town 2 hours drive north of Toronto. Haliburton has shopping, restaurants, a lovely gallery, boat rentals and an internet cafe. Haliburton Forest has a Wolf Centre as well as a ""Walk in the Clouds Tree Top Canopy Walk"".

The cottage is also near the Algonquin Provincial Park- a huge (7630 square kms) wildlife preserve perfect for canoeing trips/ hiking/ camping/ fishing.

Bancroft, the ""Gem Capital of Canada"" is a 30 minute drive.

"Delightful cottage in a beautiful location"

We have returned from 4 very enjoyable days at this cottage. The house itself is very well furnished with every amenity you could wish for, the two lounges would be great for families with children of varying ages.
Its location is excellent with a lovely dock overlooking a very quiet lake. The wrap around deck is perfect for relaxing with a book.
I would add that the path down to the dock is fairly steep and slippery after a wet spell. Over all a great place to unwind.

"Fantastic private retreat!"

Beautiful cottage on a beautiful lake! The privacy of this cottage was it's greatest asset. Couldn't see any neighbours. It is also at the end of the lake in a small cove so it avoids the… More

"great getaway with friends for Canada Day long weekend"

We travelled with 10 friends for the Canada Day long weekend. Booking the cottage was easy, Diane gets back to you really quickly, and she is always friendly and professional. The cottage is right on the lake! It is really secluded, there are neighbours on both sides, but you can not see them or hear them - the tree line that separates the cottages makes it very private. There is plenty of space to relax - depending on your style. Some of us took the canoe out for a few hours everyday and explored the lake. Others hung out on the deck all day in the zero gravity chairs. During the day we also spent time on the dock, and went swimming, the water was very warm and clear. In the evening we would hang out by the firepit...there was plenty of wood provided, and we were able to make a fire every night. The cottage itself is very well taken care of, kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms are clean.
Overall great stay and would recommend it for group of friends or a couple of families.

"Lovely home in a tranquil scenic setting"

The cottage (definitely not an English cottage!) exceeded our expectations. It is large and airy with a very well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. We didn't go too far afield as it was for … More

Thanks! Yes, "cottage" has a different connotation in England. Shame about the blackflies... I did hear that they were quite bad in early June this year, I think it had been a pretty wet spring.

I'm so glad that you enjoyed your time "up north" while you were in Canada... Thanks for choosing our place, it's been a pleasure liaising with you :-).

"I don't think I can go anywhere else! This place has spoiled me!"

I've gone to several different cottages and this by far is the best. This was my second visit and it was just as good as the first time. It's not too far from Toronto, has a beautiful view and sleeps 9 big guys comfortably. The fire pit is a bonus and the deck is great to oversee the scenery. There is a dock and a canoe where you can go fishing. I can't wait to go back again this year. Dianne is great and everything is basically provided for you.

Thanks Dianne for the excellent weekend!

"A fantastic cottage on a beautiful lake"

Hi Dianne,
Thank you so much for opening up your wonderful cottage to my family and friends. The place was exactly as promised, and coordinating with you was so easy thanks to your really fast email response time. The cottage was beautiful and tranquil. Very private. Lake was gorgeous and the canoe was really fun to take out on the calm lake. Fire pit, smores, BBQ cookouts, and all the modern conveniences on the inside (wifi, full kitchen) made this weekend even more memorable. Highly recommended for a quick get-away as the drive was only 3 hrs from Toronto.

"We all had an awesome time"

We stayed at this cottage on the weekend of Sept 7th. The weather wasn't so great, however the water was still warm and we were still able to get the canoe out. The cottage is beautiful, spaciou… More

Hi Jay,

Thanks for the thorough review and I'm so glad you all enjoyed the cottage!

I just thought I'd explain about the 10mph area you described: this narrow area, about 1.5km along the shore from our cottage, is where our lake (Miskwabi) links to Long Lake. You can usually use a motorboat through the narrows however as the lakes are part of the Trent-Severn drawdown, it's at its shallowest at the end of the summer. We're lucky that our swimming area and the rest of the lake aren't affected.

Thanks again, and good luck with the fishing on your next visit!
