The East Anglia region
This part of Suffolk is an unspoilt area of quiet charm.A softly undulating landscape with small villages and magnificent churches. Being so far to the east of the country it often escapes the rain prevailing in the West. It can be very warm in the Summer but quiet cold in Winter. The coastal area is an unspoilt mixture of estauries, marshesand forests, ideal for walkers and bird watchers.
The cathedral city of Norwich is an hours drive. The castle museum and the cathedral are well worth a visit. There is a wonderful market in the middle of the town as well as two large shopping malls. In the south of the county is the ancient wool town of Lavenham with its 16c timber framed buildings, and just 9 miles away Framlingham where one can visit the remains of the castle.
The respected Fox and Goose restaurant is in Fressingfield and has recently opened a bistro on its ground floor.Next door the Swan Inn has a good reputation for evening meals and its Sunday carvery. Walberswick on the other side of the estuary is a charming seaside village with a sandy beach and an annual crabbing competition popular with children.
Dunwich has a shingle beach and a very good fish and chip restaurant. Dunwich forest has wonderful walks and is next door to the RSPB reserve at Minsmere. An annual music festival founded by Benjamin Brittain is held in June at Aldburgh and Snape Maltings. The latter is a complex of galleries shops places to eat and a concert hall.where events are held all year round . Fressingfield has a music festival in September. Halesworth has a number of very good food shops. Look out for Focus Foods.
