The East Sussex region
Sussex is a historic county in South East England corresponding roughly in area to the ancient Kingdom of Sussex. Sussex combines the unique beauty of the English Home Counties and a new vibrant cosmopolitan mix of cultures. Its climate is known as being consistently warmer than any other part of England, nearby Eastbourne notably receives more hours of sunshine than any other part of England. Whether you want the liveliness of Brighton's chic shopping lanes and its notorious nightlife or quiet walks in the charming villages of the South Downs and Pevensey Levels - Sussex has it all.
Oak Croft's nearest town is the market town of Hailsham (3 miles). Hailsham has many amenities including a leisure centre, ten-pin bowling, cinema and variety of interesting restaurants. The Seaside Resort of Eastbourne is 12 miles away offering a beach and many more attractions. Nearby lies Hastings battleground of the famous 1066 invasion, an interesting museum accompanies a walk-through guide of what 11th century war was like. The exciting city of Brighton is 18 miles away; world renown for shopping and nightlife. Pevensey Levels is an area of outstanding natural beauty and a designated area of special scientific interest - terrific for long country walks. A short drive away are the South Downs also an area of natural beauty, stretching from Winchester to Eastbourne and extremely popular with walkers, horse riders and hang-gliders.
Other places of interest in the area include: The charming historic towns of Lewes (14 miles), Battle (10) and Rye (25). There are many pretty downland villages all a short drive away. Hertsmonceux Castle and Science Centre are 3 miles away and Glyndebourne Opera (9), Druisilla's Adventure Park and Zoo (8) are also close. The Seven Sisters Country Park is well worth a visit. Knockhatch dry-ski slope and adventure park (3) is great fun for all. For those who like the buzz of speedway and banger racing, Arlington Stadium is also only 3 miles

"Beautiful home from home!"
We arrived late at night with nine children aged 4 months-18 years. Everything we needed was there as Sue, the owner, had suggested(it might make my holiday more enjoyable) I got some shopping delivered and she would unpack it all for us and put it away!
This was so helpful and saved loads of hassle for me! The house had everything, plenty of room, a lovely garden, loads of outdoor seating space to have extended family over. Would recommend to anyone and hope to visit Sue's lovely home again next year!

Stayed at Oak Croft the end of March to the begining of April which must have been some of the coldest days of the year.We consisted of 2 grandparents,2 parents ,2 twoyearold twins
Sue gave us a warm welcome ,we found absolutely everything we needed in the house which was lovely and warm in such cold weather there was even a beautiful wood burner but it was'nt needed.
There was so much to do in the area ,we even found 3 minature railways within a short drive which the twins found marvellous!!!
We will definately think about returning next year

"Idyllic, tranquil garden."
If you imagine a proper English Country Garden, this house has it. Beautiful roses, immaculate lawn, little wooden gate securing a lily pond encircled by bullrushes, a picturesque summerhouse, all surrounded by farmland as far as the eye can see. Whether enjoying a cup of tea on the balcony, the patio or from the breakfast bar in the kitchen, just looking at the view makes you feel relaxed and content. The house itself is impeccably clean and comfortable. The owner is warm and welcoming and has stocked the house with everything you could need, including many games for kids. Highly recommended!
