Groton Manor Farm
About the home
Groton Manor Farm Barn is super place to stay, Groton Manor farm is no longer a farm but set in 3.5 acres of its own paddocks, garden and woodland it offers privacy and seclusion. Our old stables, cattle shed and piggeries have been converted in to a unique place to stay, with many original features. The property sleeps 8, with a fantastic master suite with ensuite showroom (walk in shower) and dressing room. The three piggery bedrooms have a double bed, two single beds and a king-size respectively and they lead one in to the other which is not suitable for everyone but perfect for others. As a family we recently stayed in the accommodation for a few weeks and my children loved it, they did not want to move back to the main house. It is great for entertaining and very sociable, I was able to cook, prepare lunch for 8 and still be part of the hustle and bustle of conversation and the children playing on the wii. The range cooker is fantastic.
We have some great walks just on our doorstep so I hope you will come and enjoy the countryside. With a car you can visit the nearby towns of Hadleigh, Sudbury, Lavenham or just explore the pretty villages of Kersey, Groton, Edwardstone and Boxford.
Internet access is wireless and available in main house.

Further details indoors:
The kitchen diner come sitting room is fantastic for entertaining I know, as I use it for our own dinner parties. you can prep, cook and be in amongst it all. The dimensions of the room is approximately 45 ft by 15ft with very high ceilings as it was previously a cow shed, and stables, so it has character and history. The accommodation is particularly child friendly with fitted carpets throughout bedrooms and living space with karndean flooring in bathrooms, kitchen and entrance hall, threre are no open fire places and the double-glazing and insulation make it virtually sound proof.
A tumble drier and extra fridge and freezer facilities are available in the utility room at the end of the buidling which has its own entrance.
A very clutter free environment with character and warmth. All duvets and pillows are anti-allergenic.
The accommodation has the highest specification water softener which is great for those with sensitive skin or those who like to luxuriate in the bath or shower and it provides great drinking water too.
Lighting throughout the property is a delight and makes for a fantastic atmosphere whether it is the superb light over the dining table or the double row of ceiling lights in the piggery bedrooms (on dimmer switches) or the italian chandelier in the master bedroom.
The entrance hall and master suite have wall to ceiling mirrors which are very popular with our wedding guests during their preparation. For entertainment there is 37 inch LCD TV with FreeView. Previous guests have found it a great place play on a Wii X-Box, so bring your own and have some fun.
If you intend to cook there is a fantastic electric range with ceramic hob. There is a small fridge but extra refrigeration is available as is a freezer.
All bathrooms have a heated towel rail and vanity mirror with lights. As the owner lives only next door we are happy to be on hand to offer assistance whether it is providing tins to make a birthday cake, electric whisk, find a babysitter, a taxi or suggest a restaurant etc
Further details outdoors:
We have an outdoor heated swimming pool which is open during the summer months and we are happy for guests to use this facility albeit with the owners and their children. Our children have a trampoline and TP climbing frame, swing and slide which we are happy for guests children (UNDER 14 YEARS OF AGE) to play on.
There are fantastic walks on our door-step and we are a 3 minute walk from Groton Wood managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust. The Fox and Hounds pub is a good mile from us so with a brisk walk you can be there in 15 minutes.

The East Anglia / Suffolk region

The East Anglian region is situated on England's most easterly North Sea coastline and boasts the sunniest climate to be found anywhere the UK, some of the most beautiful countryside in lowland Britain.
Groton is close to the historic towns of Colchester (Englands Oldest recorded town), Ipswich (birth place of Cardinal Wolsey), Bury St Edmunds (the historic St Edmunsbury Cathedral) and Sudbury (birth place of Thomas Gainsborough. Suffolk offers you an authentic experience in a contemporary setting, virtually all our villages have beautiful and interesting churches to visit . Groton is the birth place of John Winthrop 1st Govenor of Masachusettes USA. If you enjoy history you will love this area which has contributed so many interesting characters to the new and old worlds. Enjoy family fun in Suffolk and explore the county that has so much happening from hidden country walking (kesey vale is a great hike for all age groups) and cycle routes to festivals, village events and farmers markets.
The farm is set back off the country lane that leads to Hadleigh and Kersey. It is located on the South Suffolk Cycle Route so you can explore the surrounding villages and hamlets of Groton, Boxford, Kersey, Edwardstone, Chelsworth, Lindsey, Lavenham, Stoke-By-Nayland and Polstead without having to use your car.
Cambridge is at just 1 hour drive and Colchester is at 20 minutes'.
The Hadleigh / Kersey area
As the countryside is gently undulating the cycling is suitable for guests of all ages and fitness levels and the roads are fairly quiet.
Locally, the area is a haven for wildlife from the moorhens and wild ducks on the pond, to the rabbits, deer and House Martens that visit in the summer.
If you are looking to escape the pressures of every day life; want to spend quality time with the children or would like to go out for dinner with or without the children (babysitters can be recommended), this is the ideal place. If you are child free you can enjoy the privacy of the location, and the many places to visit in the surrounding area.
Long Melford is great for antiques and has some interesting fashion shops. Lavenham offers a variety of interesting independent shops and it has a beautiful old Guildhall to visit in the old market square. Hadleigh is worth a visit with its good local butchers, deli with French and Italian produce, farm shop and the Adnams Shop which offers great wine & beer as well as interesting cookware. Throughout the area there are many places to visit or events to enjoy in the local villages.
There is a good selection of local restaurants and pubs or you may want to stay in and prepare your own supper in the barns great kitchen with some lovely local produce.
If you are interested in participating in a cookery course, a clay pigeon shoot, tennis lessons, golf lessons or some other organised group activity please let me know and I am happy to organise your request and/or enquire on your behalf.
