The Costa Calida/Murcia region
The Murcia region is one of Europes warmest areas with average yearly temperatures of 22 degrees celsius. 300 days of sunshine, clear blue skies and low rainfall makes this an oasis all year round.
Known by the name of Costa Calida, that means warm coast in Spanish, the Murcia region coastline stretches over 250 kilometres where two different seas meet on one single coast, the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean. As a natural geographic accident, this is the astonishing La Manga area, a coastal strip of land that closes off the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean Sea. The Mar Manor has incredibly warm waters that since time immemorial have been renowned for their benefits to health.
There are also natural ecological delights like the sand dunes at San Pedro del Pinatar or the natural parkland and beaches of Calblanque. Breathtaking cliffs, deserted, paradise beaches with white sand and unspoilt bays with mirror-like seawater are all on offer.
Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort / Polaris World, Hacienda Riquelme area
For golfers there is the opportunity of playing on three of the Jack Nicklaus creations (three more in process). As well as creating courses with perfect conditions, extra special care is taken with the landscaping. The course on the Hacienda is the second longest in Southern Spain and guests can play on La Torre and El Valle which are sister resorts within 10-15 minutes drive away.
For families, there are numerous beaches and bays within 15 minutes drive, Lo Pagan, San Pedro del Pinatar, the bustling Los Alcazares (20 mins) with a huge variety of restaurants to suit any pallette. Visit La Manga (35 mins) and bathe in the warm Mar Menor and then cross the road to surf in the Mediterranean. Visit Cabo de Palos (25 mins) for seafood restaurants overlooking the bay. The beautiful cathedral city of Murcia offers culture and cosmopolitan shopping opportunites.
Torrevieja is 30 mins from the Hacienda with a huge water park and for the more adventurous Alicante is approximately 55 mins drive.
Something for everyone in this area of soft sandy beaches, pure clean water and spectacular sunsets.
