We are an English Family who have owned Olive Tree villa for 5 years. We love this region of Spain as it offers you the luxurious golf complex with its Spa, restaurants, club house, bars and outdoor activities along with the historic seaside town, Cartegena which offers fantastic shopping, history, sandy beaches, festivals and a real Spanish experience.
ABOUT THE VILLA
Olive Tree Villa is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, traditional Spanish Villa, situated in a large corner plot on phase 2 of the resort. Being the third phase to be built, the area has had time to grow and mature. The villa has shared used of a large pool (shared by 5 other villas).
Beautiful gardens are set around three sides of the villa and have been landscaped with fragrant shrubs and individual trees. At the front of the property is a fairly old Olive tree with a hedge of white Oleanders, Lavender bushes and purple Bougainvillea. Near to the pergola and BBQ there is a banana tree, palm tree and a further hedge of white Oleanders stretch to the opposite side of the garden, with pink Bougainvillea. There is a privet hedge for privacy. A large stone BBQ inlaid with pattern is surrounded by further lavender and white Bougainvillea. There are a number of individual palms including the Dwarf Chusan Palm, and Chilean wine palm, while the tall 'Bird of Paradise' flowers make a spectacular display growing near the garden gate leading to the pool.
The villa is furnished throughout with comfortable English furniture and specially sourced quality beds, soft pillows, duvets and curtains. The villa offers 2 bedrooms to comfortably sleep 4 adults. In addition, there is a comfortable sofa bed in the lounge which can sleep a further 2 adults. There are 2 bathrooms offering both bath and shower facilities.
The lounge accommodates seating for 4+ people on a corner sofa, with additional separate chair. There are a range of rosewood wall units, with bookshelves and a selection of English books and games, TV (with Sky) and DVD. There is a separate dining area with a light wood table and 4 chairs with cotton covers.
The kitchen is fully fitted with a range of units as well as a fridge/freezer, electric hob and oven, washing machine, dishwasher, kettle and toaster. It is fully equipped with crockery, cutlery, saucepans, serving plates, glasses etc. for 4 + people.
The master bedroom has a 4' 6” double bed with soft/medium English mattress and Victorian bedstead, bedside tables and lamps, large fitted double wardrobe with hanging rail and drawers, access door to terrace. Wonderful to lie in bed with a cup of tea and look out of the doors onto the sunny garden. Located within the master suite, clean and luxurious bathroom consisting of bath with overhead shower, full size wash basin in vanitory unit and low level lavatory. Bedlinen included.
The second bedroom has two 3' single full length very comfortable English beds with wicker headboards. Fitted double wardrobe with hanging rail and drawers below. Situated next to bedroom 2, the bathroom consists of walk in shower, large basin unit and lavatory. Bedlinen included.
The villa is warm air heated in Winter and air conditioned in Summer – the preferred temperature can easily be selected via the thermostat. Hot water is always available. A Utility cupboard in the hall includes a dryer line, broom, mop, dustpan, etc.
Outside, the shady arched terrace with its stunning views is perfect at any time of the day for al fresco dining, from breakfast to N evening BBQ. There is a patio table and four chairs and a large, built in BQQ underneath the pergola. There are two garden loungers for those who are serious sun bathers. An outside tiled staircase at the front of the property takes you to the roof terrace for panoramic views of the countryside and distant hills surrounding the plateau onto which the Hacienda del Alamo resort nestles.
The resort is manned by a security guard at the entrance 24/7 giving you peace of mind and is meticulously maintained by round the clock gardeners and cleaners.
The villa is ideally located within a short walk (5-8 minutes) from the luxurious clubhouse with its golfing shop, lounge areas, terraces, bar and restaurant - which serves the best steak and chips we have ever tasted! Opposite the club house you will find a large driving range and practice putting greens.
A slightly longer walk of 10-15 minutes will take you to the Spaniard Inn, resort shop (which sells food necessities), bike hire, cafe and children's play area.
The local village of Fuente Del Alamo (about a 5-7 minute drive) is typically Spanish and offers a handful of bars, restaurants, shops and a large Supermarket for all your shopping requirements selling fresh fish, meats, household items and regional wines, beer and spirits. For more extensive shopping a 20 minute drive will take you to the seaside port town of Cartegena where you can literally shop until you drop!
The resort is around a 40 minute drive from San Javier Airport and 1 1/4 hours from Alicante Airport. We recommend hiring a car and can advise on local car hire companies.
This golf course is rated as one of the best in Europe. It was designed by Dave Thomas (American) and the resident pro golfer for this championship course is Angel Jimenez. Its 18 holes are laid out over 92 hectares of land, culminating in a total of 5 hours of course play.
The challenging course opened for play in 2006 and was designed to test golfers of all abilities with all holes surrounded by natural waste ground. It goes without saying that the challenge is to keep your ball on the fairway!
Many new courses are being built across Europe but very few have the quality of Hacienda del Álamo. The Hacienda Resort has ambitions to become the No.1 golf resort in Spain and the early signs are encouraging and their goal is perhaps achievable.
Paul Thomas (son of Dave Thomas) writes: "Dave Thomas Limited is delighted to have the opportunity to be part of Hacienda del Álamo – major new golf resort and international destination for the Murcia region of Spain. We believe the golf course will satisfy and challenge all levels of golfers but we have particular interest and belief that Hacienda del Alamo will become recognised as one of the premier championship golf courses in Spain.
The gently undulating terrain together with the original orchards and groves provide the golf course with many opportunities for enjoyable and interesting golf and strong landscape features. We have been particularly careful to ensure that the integration of housing does not affect or interfere with the golfing experience. Indeed, the course occupies such a large area of the project that we are sure that golfers will feel comfortable with the panoramic vistas Hacienda del Alamo enjoys.
From the back tees the par 72 course measures 6,724 metres, currently the longest course in Spain. The two loops of nine holes with two par threes and two par fives meander through the almond and olive orchards enhanced with several new lakes and cascades to make the course visually appealing. Also in operation is the golf academy and driving range which has 6 full golf holes, two putting greens providing learning golfers the correct environment to be taught golf."
There are too many great holes to mention but the par four 6th has a demanding drive and the par four 11th is another favourite, with a tricky approach to a raised green. We must make special mention to the 18th hole, which is a cracking par five with water on the left of the green – a fabulous closing hole to conclude a tight match-play game.
Blending in seamlessly with the golf course is the Clubhouse which offers a restaurant, terrace with views of the golf course and a full range of amenities including a VIP room, billiards, television room, bag room &, bar.
Golf is not the only sport you can play on the resort, at the sports centre you will find a football and rugby pitch, a multi-purpose sports complex, tennis and padel courts, and one of the best English-style bowling greens in Spain. And to allow you to enjoy sport completely free from stress, the sports centre is equipped with private parking, dressing rooms, and a children's area.

The Murcia region
Located at the South-East corner of the Iberian Peninsula, between the regions of, Andalusia, Castile-La Mancha and Valencia, the region of Murcia occupies an area of 11,317 km2 (2.2% of the total surface area of Spain), bordering the province of Albacete in the North, the province of Alicante in the East, the provinces of Granada, Albacete and Almería in the West, and the Mediterranean in the South-East.
The Region of Murcia has a wonderfully varied combination of miles of sandy beaches, rugged mountains and lakes and fertile plains capable of growing pretty much anything from salad vegetables to cotton and rice, oranges and lemons to grapes and apricots. Murcia has all of this as well as the healthiest climate in Europe (according to the World Health Organisation) with more than 320 days of sunshine per year.
In the past few years Murcia airport (San Javier) has become increasingly popular with low cost airlines from the UK. Murcia has looked at the Costa del Sol to the South and the southern Costa Blanca to the North and has learned much from the overbuilding in those areas. Murcia therefore, has very strict planning laws that are aimed at protecting the beauty of the region and it has established several natural parks. While there is development in the region the majority of this is on World class golf resorts such as The Hacienda Del Alamo and also beachfront property on the La Manga Strip. Apart from the La Manga Strip, no high-rise properties are allowed and parks and green areas have to be left within developments.
The fabulous fiestas, wonderful food, fabulous scenery, excellent beaches and warmth of the local people all go together to make this an exceptional region of Spain.
Please see www.murcia-tourist-information.co.uk and www.murciaturistica.es for more information on the region.

Just back from a weeks stay in the villa. Great location, central to everything in the resort but on a lovely peaceful site. Pool was immaculate and quite. My daughters 14 & 8 had their most enjoyable holiday yet. Golf course was in great condition and excellent value. Will be going back soon.

"The perfect quiet sunny get away!"
My husband and I spent four days at the Hacienda Del Alamo in June. The villa is perfect, clean and spacious with a lovely garden area for BBQ's and sunbathing. The resort is quiet, in fact we had the shared pool to ourselves most days! The restaurant at the Golf Club serves great food, and there is a smart and comfortable veranda to enjoy the evening and views of the course course. If you are looking for sunshine and a relaxing holiday we would highly recommend!

"A wonderful, relaxing week in glorious sunshine and a beautiful setting"
Lovely villa in a beautiful location. Well equiped with English furniture (including English beds and bed linen which makes a difference!). The resort itself is quiet but has lots of sports activities on offer and a few pubs and restaurants which both serve extremely good food (especially the club house restaurant). The local town of Cartegena is beautiful and very historic with excellent shopping and seafront cafes. I would highly recommend it and plan to book again for next year!
Thank you for your review, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay and enjoyed the resort and the activities it offers. Cartagena is our favourite place to shop and explore too! We look forward to welcoming you again next year.
